MrsWD's winter project
I am so proud of her. My wife is energetic and multi-talented. She does some kind of off-the-wall art project every winter. This year she took an old wheelchair and made new upholstery for it in a bird motif inspired by the titmice and chickadees at our bird feeder. The seat back has over 100 separate pieces of cloth sewn on ("aplique").

Very cool. Is this going to be an item of decor, did she make it with someone specific in mind or is she going to sell it?

G'day!

Very impressive! She has a ton of talent, Patrick. I love the button use for berries! Using the vintage wheelchair as a medium is genius!
Thanks for taking the closeup pics.....and for sharing. Best to you and your lady!

There is a contrast between the cheerful care free birds and the dark undertones of being straddled to a chair of such limited mobility by today's standards.
They go together as if meant to be, yet the dichotomy exists. This is not the over the top steam-punk stuff, but there is an edge to it. It would be interesting to study people's reaction to it. How many people would dare sit in it? How many people would study the detailed artwork? How many people would get into the chair's mechanical aspect? This is restoration and craft turned into art, almost against it's will but to a good end.

Absolutely magnificent work. The scale, color and intricacy is amazing. Please tell her how much I/we appreciate her talent. And good on you for being rightfully proud.

Thank you all so much!
I showed your responses to her and it made her cry - happy tears of course. Thank you!
