Anyone know rc sail boats?

My son and I have been messing around with some antique pond yachts which has been fun.

The other day we were in a local antique shop and saw they had a large sail boat model which they did not know was an rc model. It appears to be really well built and is in nice vintage condition. Priced at $60 with the stand. Decent deal?

That's really cool. Heck, I'd pay 60 bucks to have it as a decorative piece.

Looks like a Dumas Models "Ace Sloop". I've got one unfinished from my childhood. Not an R/C boat but rather a "free sailing" boat as compared to the old "Free Flight" non R/C airplanes.

When I opened the panel on the top there were remnants of servo parts connected to the rudder and some sort of electrical connection on the forward bulkhead.

Seems like it does lack the control of the sails a more modern rc boat has. The radio gear seems to have only controlled the rudder.

I've built a few RC sailboats (three from scratch, my own design, winged keels and all). I agree that looks like an old Dumas kit. It was a fairly popular thing to put in rudder control only and run those with the sails sheeted to a fixed line length.

Thanks for the info! 60 a deal or would you offer less?

I've paid more for just a model, seems good to me.
