I love the 400 and some of ficke's stories that he has shared over the years. Thankfully, I don't have the space for a 400 or 412 otherwise it might appear in my garage.

In terms of a cush comfy big cruiser, its hard to beat the MB 500 or 560SEC. Here is mine...I drove into work today coincidentally.

Slow&Rusty, are you suggesting that your 560 is similar to the Ferrari 400 in ride and performance, or simply commenting on the fact that it's 'comfy' and powerful? Lovely car, by the way.

There was a time when European cars looked unquestionably European.

Robert - In your original post, you had asked what car would compare (considering "like" models from Mercedes, BMW, Jag etc)...I think the SEC would be close but really the 400/412 would be more of a thrilling car to own especially if you found a rare one with a third pedal compared to the GM sourced 3 speed slushmatic.

Doing a little research, the 400 has anywhere from 306hp-340hp, so performance wise it will be comparable with a European spec SEC. Both cars would be comparable in weight, dimensions and overall comfort but the SEC would be a far less expensive car to own.

The 928 would also be a worthy contender here too.
