Best or favorite current or past super/hyper cars?
For whatever reason, I've been seeing a lot of super/hypercars whether on the street or in photos or in videos (mostly videos). I don't have any current magazine subscriptions, so I am not usually up on most of the current crop except maybe for the various Porsches. McLaren and Ferrari seem to have been pretty busy recently, and there seems to also be a few small manufacturers that are doing some great stuff.
So, what do you like the best, think is the most impressive or which is your favorite whether current or if you just really still love some of the old stuff. The Mclaren F1 is still to me, way up at the top of the list, and still, I think has admirable performance compared to many of the new cars especially considering it's around 30 years old. Actually, if you factor in the age, I would say that it's still the tops. Many of the modern cars have higher numbers, but if you factor in "technological inflation" and the fact that it's 30 years old, I'd say that being able to top 240mph and have a near 3-flat 0-60 puts it at the top of the list. Back in the day, I remember thinking the 959 was the bees knees. These days, I appreciate it's performance and technology, but it doesn't move me the same. I think I prefer the Ruf yellow bird. As far as more current vehicles, the modern Lambos are certainly very cool, and sound phenomenal, but aren't my favorites. I prefer McLaren, but those two don't move me that much. I guess I have a spot in my heart for just about Anything Porsche. The 918 is super cool, but I think I still think the CGT is awesome. Pagani makes some impressive vehicles as well, but they don't inspire me that much. The exposed shifter mechanism in the Huayra is cool, but somehow a not as cool as it would have been if the thing didn't also have paddle shifters. One of my favorites for the past several years has been Koenigsegg. They remind me of the McLaren F1, and the performance and engineering are pretty impressive.

Have you watched APEX on Netflix? It is about this and covers the cars you mention. Decent watch....

Cars I'll never own, so don't pay much attention.

I'll never own a Rembrandt, Michaelangelo or van Gogh either, but that doesn't keep me from appreciating them.
But thanks for your grumpy old guy wisdom and insight. ![]() ![]()

Not sure if you would call it a "supercar" per se, but the Pantera GT5s is my dream "supercar".

If I had the money:
RUF Yellowbird Ferrari F40 In my opinion, these were the pinnacles for those brands at the time.

All the cars you've mentioned really don't do anything for me and I don't have much desire to own any of them even if I could easily afford them. Their performance is fantastic but can really only be exploited on a track anyway. All the latest Ferraris do nothing for me (they're really not very good looking cars anymore whereas they used to be beautiful to look at standing still).
Even on Top Gear, which I love, I find myself changing the channel when Jeremy is talking about the latest McLaren (or whatever). There is one car I would love to own if money was no object and that is the 288 GTO. Wouldn't mind a Singer either...

I think the McLaren F1, then Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, and Chiron or whatever it's called, have set themselves apart from all of the rest.

Good call. For whatever reason, when I think supercars, I don't usually think back that far, but the Miura is one of my favorite older cars. There are a few earlier Ferraris and maybe an Alfa or two not to mention some things like Bugatti's that could be considered the super cars of their time.
Quote:
The Ford GT from the 2005/2006 time was another favorite, but I'm not sure that it is really a super car. In stock form, did it top 200? The new Ford GT is pretty impressive, but I'm not sure if that really qualifies either. I'm not familiar with their numbers, and you certainly expect a super car or hyper car to hit certain numbers.

For me, a street legal race car is not a supercar. Why? Because you wouldn't want to drive it anywhere other than on a track, with a supporting race crew and shop. A supercar should be drivable, and should be engineered from the start to not only provide other world performance, but keep in mind the driver and the application of the car+driver+road. Usable AC and a radio should also be part of the thinking that you're not a boy racer, but a driver ultimately on a commute.

In no particular order:
Ferrari F40 & Enzo McLaren F1 Pagani Zonda Koenigsegg CCX Alfa 8C (probably not a supercar but super rare and pricey)
