All Things Porsche Formula E!

Would you just listen to... errr... Just look at it! Would you look at this. Oh my gosh just look at it! Ok, but in all seriousness, in the spirit of Porsche beginning its Formula E racing next season here is their race car testing.

Quote:

Following the successful roll-out of the Porsche Formula E car at the test facility in Weissach at the start of March, the project is now taking its next step, testing at the Calafat racetrack in Spain, where preparations for the coming season in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship enter their next phase.

It might get me interested in racing again. I was always interested in marque vs marque racing. Not so interested in the driver soap operas. I would like to see Porsche at the top of EV competition.

No interest in it. Silent RC cars. Cars don’t look any different. Like I said in another post, rather go to K1 Speed with some buddies and we can crash into each other like they do. The Germans joined the E series after they basically F’ d up diesel and to some point internal combustion cars forever.

Its a very competitive series. If Porsche brings a strong car, the results will be evident in qualifying and race. Audi has been FE since day one, so they, among others will be tough to beat.

I want noise and the smell of burnt rubber and hydrocarbons.

astrochex 04-22-2019 06:43 PM

^Tire squeal can be endearing.

Sorry, but nothing matches the sound of F1 cars coming up the chicane at Watkins Glen and entering the back straight. Battery powered ? Pfft. And Pfft would be pretty much what it would sound like. Dating myself, I know, but...

Por_sha911 04-22-2019 07:47 PM

yawn

WPOZZZ 04-22-2019 07:54 PM

No.

Ive only seen a couple Formula E races and the competition was pretty good. The cars were competing close enough to keep my intrest. I did not like them swapping cars 1/2 way into the race. Do they still do that ? I also would like to see them carry enough battery power to run flat out all the time.

Yes....with the volume down.

petrolhead611 04-23-2019 12:10 AM

They use 1 car per race this season

rfuerst911sc 04-23-2019 04:38 AM

I currently watch Formula E and Porsche coming into the series will add some more excitement . I find the racing tight with good amounts of passing . The technology in a short period of time has allowed the cars to go entire race on one charge . I enjoy ALL racing that is competitive .

The Gen 3 (current) cars can run an entire race without changing cars.

With Porsche in the series, I may watch a few races and see if I can get interested in slot car racing. I will have to wait and see.

Will they be playing the same sort of music while the race is happening to make up for the lack of engine noise?

:-)

Was there any noise to speak of that provided a sense of excitement?

You get the aforementioned RC type car noise, but the main sensation I hear is tire squeal in cornering and braking. Can't forget the not-infrequent crash noises.

The in/on-car cameras provide good footage.

Yea, that commercial on the first post is just stupid. Either have an announcer say something, or at least show me what I will hear and see in a race. Big drums banging don't cut it for me.

I was lucky enough to drive a Tesla that was based on the Lotus around a track. It was a little bitty car and fun around the track, and weird to only hear electric motors buzz.

Got a cat ;) in this season's Formula E dog fight and can say first hand it's a super tight, competitive and extremely tough championship to be successful in

Survived working 18 season's of F1 but it only took less than a season of Formula E to kill me :D

As there are only 5 areas of the car free for the teams to design around the FIA have made it very difficult for one team to win the arms race by out spending the other teams ie Mercedes and Ferrari in F1

7 races in and the top 3 teams are not owned by major motor manufacturers with motor sport pedigree's. BMW and Audi are 4th and 5th, Jaguar in 8th with the Mercedes works entry cunningly disguised as HWA trailing in a lonely 9th place (everyday will be a school day for them)

7 drivers from 7 teams have all won one race each which I think is quite amazing and a sure sign of a healthy championship

Porsche will find it tough and as they always do will rise to the challenge and be very successful
