Speed queen any good
 

Anyone use speed queen waher/dryer?
We now hve whirlpool cabrio set top load, about 6 years old and the are complete junk.
The bearings in the wash tub are shot, a $600 repair( not happening).

Anyone have experience with speed queen, specifically the tr5000 model. Nothing fancy (don't need it to make my morning coffee), basic knob controls.

Any input is appreciated..

My sister lovers hers, but I have no firsthand experience.

They make ugly but indestructible commercial coin op machines. Might be great.

Wife has one. Great machine. S.S. Tub, analog controls (knobs). Easy to use. Commercial quality. Better than the p.o.s. front loader we had. Door seals leak, water all over the laundry room. Keypad display was iffy, letters wore off the display, so you couldn’t tell what was going on with the wash machine. Had it two years and got rid of it and bought the Speed Queen. Five years, no problems. Works like the old Maytag washing machines.

Sure like my front load washer. Less water and Less wrinkly spin cycle. With the sensor dry on the dryer can take shirts and trousers out, hang em and no ironing necessary.

We've got one and love it! there is a reason why they are used by laundry mats. They just don't break down and last for ever. You won't be sorry.

Old Speed Queens, excellent. All parts available. Not efficient. But they work. They will last the test of time, with proper maintenance, and part replacement as needed. But, they will beat up your clothes, the lint traps tell the tale. New washers don't clean construction clothes.

Buy it. My wife hated the "new washing machines". I can't make it do what I want. The cycles are stupid & the damn thing hardly gets clothes clean. Old appliance repair guy I know say "buy a Speed Queen". Steel frame, stainless steel tub, bigger motor, basic controls. Happy wife now. Expect it will out live both of us. It's a real machine.

I do agree they aren't the best looking machines but they're hidden away, so a nonissue..

We had old maytags when we first married 20yrs ago( lasted 14+ years) and do i miss them. I should've fixed the old machines. Just looking for some comparable to those.

Speed Queen redesigned to finally comply with the EPA last year - the new residential speed queens aren't what the old ones were.
Some people are buying commercial machines to avoid the problems.
My wife really wants to replace our 30 year old Maytags. Those have had a couple minor repairs over the years but they just keep working. I fear that we may have waited to long.

So the tr5 is a redesign? No transmission?

Whatever you buy, be on the lookout for "energy-efficient' OR 'high-efficiency' as most are. What that boils down to is less water in the tub, the tub barely rotates, the wash time is twice or more as a regular machine. The end result is the clothes just don't get clean.

We bought a GE - non-efficiency unit. It was the only non HE in a mid price range. We love it, its been 2 years works great. Don't know what the shelf life is over the long haul though.......

Love ours...no problems in years.

Someone mentioned the coin operated machines... the beauty is the residential stuff is the same stuff without the coin slot.

Cab..would you happen to know the model? Or did you purchase after 2018?

I'm looking at the tr5 washer, but apparently it's built differently then the previous model...it has mostly excellent reviews but would love to here from someone that owns either the tr3, tr5 or even the tr7, which is a electronic controller vs knobs

My stuff was bought before they had to go to water savers.

I'm alittle hesitant to by online. Not sure how warranty issues would be handled..

You won't... they changed the year I bought mine and had to make a lower water consumption model as I was told. The salesperson did say that if you want to overcome the low water consumption on wash, just add a gallon or so to the new one. I said... I'll just buy this model and not worry about it.

I think I'd go with the old school knobs rather than the digital display and call it a day. I have had Frigidaire, Maytag and now the Speed Queen. I'll never own another Maytag appliance for as long as I live! The Speed Queen ticked all the boxes for me. Simple design and wash and dry clothes.

Yeah i definitely want knobs..but the tr7 (electric control)comes with a 7 year warranty parts and labor on the entire machine. The tr5 is only 5yrs..

I loved my maytag wish i still had it..it was a workhorse but we stupidly replaced with a whirpool cabrio hd...biggest pos ever made..I'll never own whirpool again..

Personally the way they build these things I'd go with the 5 year and the dials. I would have to think you'll be cutting down on potential maintenance cost versus going with the digital panel.
My Maytag washer was terrible. Had to replace the triple lip seal and the main tub bearing at least twice on it due to the tub carrier cracking. After the first replacement, I saw what was wrong and "strengthened" the carrier... no problems after that.

I agree cab...I'm not a big fan of the digital control either...

One ladt question...do you found the machines to be load?
I've read some reviews that say they're pretty load. My laundryis centrally locatedin my house.( my current whirpool sounds like a jets about to take off, do to bad tub bearings).

Sorry! I just saw this one. Yeah they're a bit loud but really for me no louder than the Maytag top load or the Frigidaire top load machine I had before. My laundry room shares a common wall with my TV room and I don't have to crank the volume up when they're running... But my house is old and the common wall is a 6" wall.

Well...after many many hours research we decided on a maytag commercial 575 washer and match dryer..side by side comparisons show how bad the speed queen 2018 models are..the maytag definitely out performed in that sense..
Since i was unable to find a pre 2018 speed queen set maytag 575 was the next best thing...
I'm not real excited to know whirlpool is the parent company but apparently the 575 is built along side maytags commercial equipment...
Dilvery is friday so here's to hoping we made a good choice..
Btw about $300 less expensive..

Had a front load Frigidaire. Never again. Top load is fine with me and to get work clothes clean I use the bulky items selection. Plenty of water — doesn't look like spaghetti being rinsed in the sink.
Problem with that particular brand, and I don't know if this is a universal problem, but the complicated gasket system was a trap for stagnant water and a bad smell. I cleaned and cleaned on that thing on my hands and knees to little avail. Give me a tub any day.

If they ain't broke don't buy a new one...the fact that you Boyz went and bought new one just because you felt like it...is not very wise..and writ large is why America is now fked...not to mention the environment going south because of conspicuous consumption...fking idiots.

That said...my Kenmore is still sloshing the water around after 23 years and the GE dryer is 32 years old.

My mother used to reuse the wash water for more than one load..now that is being frugal..
