Warning, saab story
Saabs are extreme quirkiness, but a hoot to drive. My 1st encounter was my folks buying a new 72 99. My Mom was not much interested in cars or driving, in fact as a passenger she was always hitting the brakes and telling father to slow down. Mom drove the car home from the dealer and that was it. You couldn't get her out of it. All of the sudden she was driving all over the place picking up friends to do this or that. Sometimes I would see her in the driveway just sitting in the car with the sunroof open. Funniest thing I ever saw. They bought 2 or 3 more over the next decade or two. About 5 years after they bought the 99 I bought a used 96. It wasn't bad on power coming from a Bug, but next to a 383 V8 it was a snail. Got 49 mpg loaded with 3 people, a dog and a months worth of clothing driving to Maine from PA. Another trip was to Ashville, NC and was traveling on 81 south through the mountains up and down for hours/miles. 1st really big mountain I went down I realized to late that I had left it in 'free-wheeling'. Trucks were a solid line in the right lane so I couldn't get to the shoulder to brake. Thought I was going to die! Finally coasted down the mountain going maybe 95-100+ who knows; braking lightly, afraid I was going to burn them to a crisp. Finally reaching the bottom of the mountain I got out, walked it off, took a pee behind the bushes and switched from free-wheeling. Tons of other experiences, but one thing about driving a Saab; its definitely never an ordinary ride. Slow or not, anyone considering themselves a car person I encourage to drive early Saab at least once!
Buy the Sonnet, some things aren't about the cost or return on investment it's about the fun.
PS:
Don't buy one with rust!
