Anybody in Duluth?
For what it's worth, the top pool players in the planet are playing in a place known as the Break Room. $1,000 entry fee for this bar table tournament meaning big $ in prize money. It's also being streamed for free on facebook...but even this won't make me sign up for the Zuckenberg anal exam.
(edit) The great Efren Reyes of the Philippines is there. In his 60's now, possibly his last USA appearance. He may not be as good as when in his prime, but he's still exciting to watch. |
Two words: Billiards Forum. You need one.
|
Perhaps a forum out there for you? "Only topics Denis approves of are allowed in off topic."
There is a cue arts forum, That's where I got the info I posted. Silly me, thought if maybe somebody in Duluth was curious enough to want to know what the play ability of the world's best in pool was like, they might stop off for a good free show. |
Hey, it was only a suggestion. Just trying to help.

I played a game against Allison Fisher a few years back.
I broke. She ran the table. |

A break in the action
Of a stream I'm watching now... Team play, kind of modeled after the Mosconi cup. Called the "Nothwest cup", it's Oregon top players vs. Washington top players. Short races to 5, 9 ball...both individual play and scotch doubles play. Washington in the lead. Ahhh, but some consolation...my honorary nephew Matt started the tourney off by winning his match for Oregon.
On youtube stream, live today from Sam's billiards in Portland, I use chrome to view. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBXYDXBO7WA Yep..bunch of troublemakers...they ought to be out there rioting with ANTIFA, or living in tent cities and crapping on sidewalks. All they like to do is play pool pretty well. None would hang with the top pros of the world, but they're playing their hearts out. |
I sometimes play pool if I happen to be in a place where there's a table and no one else happens to be playing. (pool). I've never been to Duluth, though. I've watched things on YouTube before; sometimes I use Chrome, sometimes I use Safari. I don't think I've ever watched pool on YouTube. I did watch a guy catch a fish once on YouTube. (can't remember if it was using Chrome?)
There's a place close to Portland where they make pool tables, and I once rode by it on my bike!! It's in Milwaukie. Not Milwaukee. |

So it goes. For what it's worth, team Washington now leads team Oregon with 6 matches won to 5. Play begins anew tomorrow. First team to 11 matches won gets the bragging rights. 6 players on each team...the best in the Northwest. Speaks highly for my honorary nephew Matt. He's playing well... |
Duluth MN? It's a nice place for sure. I'd bet Speeder would say the same.

I am a pool hall junkie
After watching two days of pool on a live stream, I witnessed the end of the Northwest cup. All games played on a super tight Brunswick with 4 1/8" wide pockets. Tight pockets mean more misses, especially with rail shots.
6 selected players for each state, Washington and Oregon. 5 men, one woman on each team. Match play was two players playing a race to 5 in 9 ball, alternating break. First team to win 11 matches declared the winner. Ahhh, but match play got to 10-10! So instead of another match, a playoff of single games ensued...first team to reach 9 games wins. Even that got down to a dead heat..8-8, with Oregon winning the final game. Pressure pool at it's best...every shot critical while knowing you had a team counting on you. The icing on the cake? My honorary nephew, Matt Horner, was declared tournament MVP. Probably got the not because he pulled Oregon's fat from the fire twice..both times their backs to the wall where if Washington won, it was over. His victory made it a tie in match play, and his win in single game play forced the final game. Here's a file photo I have of the MVP...nice going, Matt! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1558370558.jpg |
