Tardiness.

If I sit down and really think about ; my pet peeves. I have ONE.

I can’t handle tardiness. I won’t be late. Not if I’m in control. Sure, I could get a flat tire or something. Yeah. Excusable.

But that lackadaisical meandering attitude where there’s enough time, (or worse) “they’ll wait for me”...makes me mental.

I’m eating dinner with a bunch of elderly coworkers. (So dinner is early) One guy is throwing a party at a vineyard restaurant. Expensive hoity stuff. Party of 16! Cocktail time, appetizers and then dinner.

I need to leave in 15 minutes. My wife just came thru the door like a hurricane. She dove into the shower.

I’m weighing the consequences right now. :). How bad can it be if I just leave? Haha.

I’m leading off with a martini.

When I ran my flooring business 8 am was drop dead time. I’m gone by one minute after 8. If you are late and no phone call then you weren’t working that day. Suddenly guys started showing up at 7:30.

Being late is my worst fear. I strive to be on time. So people can never be on time. My BIL is never on time . Years ago i refuse to do anything with him or his wife because of this. If they call to go out to dinner i tell my wife I'm not going. She understands. She hates it too. Once we waited 5 hours for them to pick us up to go on vacation. I could rant for hours about them.

" I don't feel tardy"

I'm ok with a few minutes, stuff happens. But more that 15 and no call.... I don't get it. I get stuck in traffic more than I want to think about, got to a meeting 2 min late this week and I felt like an idiot.

:) They were fun in the early years...

I typically arrive 5 minutes, sometimes 10, before a meeting time to ensure I'm on time. Tardiness, lateness, whatever you want to call it, bugs me. Lateness mean you are a poor planner, self-centered, impolite and disrespectful.

Every single time I have to be somewhere after work, I get jammed by a customer right at closing time. Never fails. Ill have the place locked up and ready to roll at 5:30, and here comes Mrs Purvis to drop off her car.
I unlock the doors, then get into a 10 minute conversation while she tells me what she needs . Lock the doors, again, jump in the truck and before you know it , I am 25 minutes behind .
I can set my watch to it .

Dated a girl whose mom's cardinal unforgivable sin was tardiness.
From what I saw her and her husband would be ready to leave 30 minutes before they had to leave with pleanty of time to get there. They would then relax with a drink.
Thought that was smart, my dad was always hurrying mom.

When I asked the girl about it, she said her mother hated anyone that was late for anything, and to be careful and never be late picking up or dropping off either one.

Oh Geezus. being a private school boy I've never been late in my life. No point in getting the cane when you can be on time.

Well, I guess none of you will be inviting me over!

Look fer my invitation in the mail....it'll probably be late...but not tardy ;).

I preferred to roll into work by 9-10...if it wuz past noon...I'd bring a note from my dawg unless she ate it....schit happens.

I'm "interrupt driven".... at least I was in my corporate daze....

If I'm late or missing....there's a REAL good reason why....99.9% of the time.

Otherwise I just don't GAF ....

U Boyz are real anal retentive mental cases...

15 to 20 minutes late is on time for me..of course I do not subscribe to the Swiss confidence game of the clock dictating what you do. I live by Tabs time..i get there when I get there...

Of course being a man of wealth and taste makes your time your own...so I say go screw if you can't take a joke..

Btw I used to be an anal on time retentive until I found religion.

THat's right.
What is more important. getting my work done , or being on time for the picnic.

fastfredracing 06-02-2019 04:36 AM

In the morning, I open at 9 am sharp. I may get there at 7:30 am, or I may get there at 9:15. I love it when some yea hoot makes the bankers hours comment, but they do not realize that I worked till 10: 30 the night before, and was up and out getting parts first thing before work .
Some of us live real structured lives, others just hang on tight with both hands and do what we gotta do .
At my last full time job, I was there about 1 year. There was an accident on my way to work one morning, and I was about 15 minutes late . My boss told me , that if it happens again, do not bother coming in .
I did not come in the next day, and never came in again .

My only contribution to the thread is to reinforce the advice to NOT put yourself in jeopardy if you happen to find yourself running late.

Of course, always endeavour to allow enough time to get to where you are going by leaving early.

But....if you do find yourself running behind - do NOT speed or drive with abandon. Any more than you usually do anyway.

Your health and well being (and that of others) is more important than getting home for dinner "on time".

Thanks to my parents for repeatedly drilling this into my head growing up.
