Little shop visitor yesterday

Had a little visitor yesterday while working in the shop. She (or he?) hung out from about 8am till 6pm. Flight capable, but didn't want to leave. Eventually, I heard from my neighbor that there was another in a bush in his yard, and that the parents had been fighting with a pair of crows. So we took her over and reunited with the parents.

Well... hello there...

Let's go...

Pretty sure I am not a nest...

I'll just sleep here then...

"All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up."

Eventually, she started squawking at me. So I left and got some meal worms. She could have left at any time, as the garage door was open. She stayed. And ate plenty.

Had she chosen to keep us, I would have named her BB (King)

Hope she visits more often.

That is cool. We have a pair of Bluebirds in a birdhouse we put up. They are pretty birds. The male sure sings a lot.

I've never head a Stellars Jay "sing" but they sure do make an awful "sqaww" racket. Worst bird-noise I've ever heard.
We had another visitor back in 2015...a little older.

I had a crow for a little while.
it would sit in a tree and when I walked out side it would fly down low to the ground (like a foot or 2 off the ground) towards me then at the last minute it would swoop up and land on my head.

had it for a few weeks. then one when I did not go out for a few days it was gone,

We have a few California Scrub Jays nesting in our yard. They are very defensive of their nests. My wife was trimming a large hedge just outside our backdoor and was getting dive bombed - yep a nest with eggs was in it. They are brave to the point of death. I watched one trying to chase off a black crow, once the crow landed the jay flew in next to it and ended up being lunch. Birds are vicious.

Such an earnest expression on his/her lil' face. Good skills looking after her.

I was doing a renovation on a old house before Christmas and a baby bird appeared on the back lawn, and decided I was it's best friend. Umm, I thought this bird is not going to last as the area is puss cat city. But by the end of the week he was a feisty healthy bird who LOL still thought of me as his bestie.

I feed a couple of hawks. They're a pair. Sometimes they get anxious and will land within about six feet and just look at me - at least one will. One afternoon one of them got so impatient, it flew down from behind & tried to grab the piece of meat from my hand while I was carrying it. Knocked the meat from my hand and scratched me with its talons. Here they are a few minutes ago waiting for me, one snatching the morsel up, & then feeding on the power pole.

Non-threatening interactions with a wild animal are show stoppers for me. I enjoy watching all the flying things (owls, bats, woodpeckers, cardinals, jays, robins, chickadees, juncos, wrens, eagles, hawks, bees...) that regularly show up around here as well as the ever-present deer and rare black bear. Somehow, it reminds me that lots of things matter more than the daily grind.

This Peregrine didn't mind at all when I walked up and took a few shots on my way into my gym...IN Levittown, NY, one of the most densely populated burbs in the country..

It was to busy dissecting a pigeon

The sounds that were being made while it was tearing the pigeon apart were slightly disturbing

No hijack at all. I used to have one. Did some falconry when I was a kid. We used them for hunting rabbit on my mentor's ranch (see the swords in the first pic? The guy who taught me how to forge). Shot out of the air by a POS neighbor.

Waiting for me to hop in the shower. I'm 6'4" 260# and within a plastic shower curtain Jaybird would fly circles around me while I showered. He loved it
