Colt or S&W 357 spoon?

I’ve been looking off and on for a Colt 357 but haven’t really seen one I liked. How does the S&W 357 spoon compare? PSA has the S&W and they’re down the street from me.

Thoughts on the two?

My vote is a vintage S&W model 28 ( Highway Patrolman ) or the Model 27......Both are "N" frames and are the best. Have a few Colt Pythons but i think the S&W "N" frame is better.

Early Pre-28"s & 27"s are good up to 28-2"s & 27-2's.......these models have the pinned barrels, recessed cylinders, no stupid locks.

I've got a thing about 686's I LOVE them.

But the Colt is money in the bank should you wish to sell it in the future.

Just my opinion.

I have a 686+ I purchased a few years ago , it also is stainless steel but with a shorter barrel . It is one fine shooter I really like it . I don't think you will be disappointed .

If I were purchasing a new revolver now .... it would be a 686. I've had a M27 for 4 decades... and I love Colts too

+1 for the 686.

The 6" barrel has nice, tight rifling for light special loads, which I found ideal for target shooting. Get some nice grips, as shooting heavy loads through it can beat your hand up some.

I got a trigger job, had the safety lock disabled and chamfered the chambers - makes a wonderful spoon.

Another 686 fan here! Also have a Colt Trooper mk3 in 6”, but honestly prefer the 686.

I have a pair of S&W 357 magnums, one is a 686 no dash that was worked on to be a pretty great target pistol. The other in an early TRR-8 from the S&W Performance shop when they first came out. Great trigger pull and it holds 8 rounds!

I have a Ruger GP100, as an alternative.

I have a 28-2 and dad has a 27. Both great shooters with great trigger pull sa and da. I would have no issues with a 686 if I needed another. The S&W grips fit my hand much better than Colt or Ruger so try one on to see how they fit. We had a Ruger for a while but I did not like it very well. YMMV.

Ifn you are gona get a 686..best get an early production one circa 1982...wt SN prefix A&&-XXX or B&&-xxx

They are around and are usually in good condition often wt box sned to the spoon.

Some of the early 686 & 586 (blued version) had adjustable front sights, some were in anodized blue SS..

I do not like the hole in the side of the frame models nor the 7 shooters..
