Do be careful. When I was a little boy my friend Mark Allen and I shot up a bee hive with .22s. They chased us and GOT us.

Isn't a 9mm short just a wimpy .380?

Everybody needs a .44 magmum on occasion....'just because

.45 Arroz Con Pollo would be my menu selection....

I am a procastinator extrordinaire too....I need to get off my butt and send some amps in for "large space" giggles too ....but I'm sloooooow.

I don't think it matters much on a paper hornets nest if that boolIt comes through with 90 gr @1,025 OR 115gr @ 1180 FPS

with hornets, there is only one right weapon to use and that's a flame thrower with f'ing Napalm , not liquid fuel, NAPALM.

Burn the suckers fast and hot, with a good afterburn , just to make sure

I remember Dave (Rusty Heap) and I taking turns on that very same hornets' nest with my M1A Scout Squad rifle one afternoon. It took a few magazines, but we did manage to knock some pretty big pieces off of it. They were equally unimpressed. Their flimsy paper housing offers almost no resistance.

I did that with MAPP gas. It was a very small nest. Wasps burn!

It better be a small nest cause else they will come out and find you.
My 2 uncles and dad, when I was ten had found a nest in a old railroad sleepr converted to sitting bench.. They thought it was a good idea to douse it with petrol and light it.

Things I learned that day
1 uncles could run faster then I had expected them to run with their beer gut
2 the wasps wer faster yet
3 The thing burned for half an hour
4 the wasps were still pissed an hour later
5 and then continued regular flight ops from the still smoking nest.

The nests are not like the enclosed nest. They are open honey comb looking things, which hang down.

european wasps are smaller, but they can have much much bigger nests
think 6000 for a normal summer, or 15000 if it's really hot for a long time..

And they usually live underground or under a roof or somewhere that you just can't destroy em easily..

The key is to trap the scouts, because if even just one of the bastards manages to get back to the nest to tell em you are having a BBQ... ,fogettabout it..
Don't whack em, even if you succeed a dead wasp gives off something that attracts and pisses off the others..

This works, I do it every summer... orange juice in bottle funnel

When I lived in the Northeast US, we would have Yellow Jacket Wasps which we called "ground bees". I don't see those around here. We mostly have paper wasps (nest I put the pictures), Mud Dobbers and the big red ones that like to land in my pool to collect water.
