License plates in new car commercials
Why are there license plates in new car commercials? Is there some sort of FCC regulation or something? As they drive down roads, cars will have some sort of semi-hidden/subtle-colored license plate on their rears. Looks computer generated to blend in with the color of the car, and not an actual metal plate. I suppose it's done to take up the space that would normally be occupied by a license plate so the rear fascia doesn't look so blank?
But then the Kia commercial just came on, and the cars were depicted as static, in a dealer showroom. And they had these fake plates, too. ![]()

I have never noticed. I don't watch commercials. DVR everything, fast forward at will.
It dos seem silly. Just put manufacturer plates on, 100% legal and done.

I expect that they want people to visualize owning the car. (it will have a plate)
It doesn't help the visualization if the plate is of another State.

It completes the visualization and perception of the car being complete in your subconscious.
Same reason all watches are photographed at 10:10 (analog ones anyway).

They spend huge money on focus groups and polling. Then did something stupid. It's the modern corporate way.

but it's not stupid. If there weren't a plate there (most people's) eye would instantly be drawn there and see something wrong.
Consider the possibility that huge focus groups and polls occasionally come to the right conclusions, however insignificant.

This. It's to make the car look right without drawing attention to it.

That's okay, I get distracted by big boobs in the beer commercials, never can focus on the product.
