Porsche Parade 2020
Guys, see several comments that is going to be Palm Springs , but no formal announcement of location etc.
Anyone have definitive info ? Thanks |
I heard it was going to be in Palm Springs in the summer as well. I think they are trying to kill all the old car drivers off. 120 degrees is going to be brutal.
As to where, I have no idea. One of the big resorts likely. This year it is in Boca Raton, FL in July. That will be hot enough. Palm Springs in July will be deadly. |

They must b looking for cheap rates at the hotels and at the golf course.

Missouri was hot last year and they were dropping like flies

Hershey, PA was HOT as well. I will likely be in Palm Springs. My wife has already she will no be going to that one. She is not going this year, so I am taking my brother instead. We have not spent a week together in over several decades. |
Wow. Palm Springs in July does not sound like a good idea.

Living in the LA area, we have plenty of friends, acquaintances, etc who enjoy going to Palm Springs, even during the summer. Personally, I don't get the attraction of 115 degree heat, even if I'm at a swimming pool. But to hold an outdoor event, where a decent percentage of the cars have iffy AC?

Plus, there have got to be better locales in terms of Porsche-type roads. Not that it's a terrible selection. We ran a Targa California out there about 4 years ago centered around Palm Springs. Joshua Tree has nice sweeping roads, and there are some that go up the sides of the Coachella Valley, in the surrounding mountains. But I also seem to recall a fair amount of transit between them--having to drive for 15-20 miles through boring, straight desert to get to decent twisties.

Highway 74 out of Palm Desert is a great road. But July? That's idiotic. You won't be seeing any long hoods or 356s.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1560866446.JPG He lives in California, and he drove it to Savannah, GA in August. This was from 2011. He still comes to all of the Parades. Lots more like like him. I have only driven my 911 to 15 Parades, but I have AC! This year is Boca Raton and I am going. And on to Key West, just to get a picture of my car driving past the monument for the most southern point in the USA. One of the beloved members drove his 356 Speedster to over 50 parades. |
That is pretty damn cool Glen.
Maybe once my kids are grown I will have time to attend one of these. Of course my new fangled water pumper has A/C. Of course the gearing is crap for the highway and the ride will beat me to death, but oh well. |
I bought m 85 911 back in 1995. I tuned up the AC, and did all the possible things to get the best AC possible from factory stock, and it still really sucked.
Just spend some money with Griffith's and now I have kick butt AC that made my wife cold in Savannah, GA in August. She actually asked me to turn the temp up because she was cold! I have 170,000 miles on my 911 now, and 175,00 or so when I get back from my Florida trip. I have done all the projects that needed to be done. All the fuses, and little things, suspension refresh, and now 17 inch Euromiester wheels on modern summer performance (Michelin PS2 tires) and a when I had the transmission opened I replaced 5th gear with the TL .724 (29:21) gear. That dropped my RPM on the highway to what I think is perfect. I have been to over 40 states in in, and I plan to hit all 48 states. Yea, I know Alaska and Hawaii make 50 states. Maybe, possibly trip someday to Alaska, but I am never going to ship it to Hawaii just to drive around. |
I drove to 49 states in my Westfalia, over 2 consecutive summers. No air conditioning, and it gets HOT in the deep South in July, all the way to Key West. It was over 100 degrees every day for about 3 weeks. I guess if I survived that, plus the humidity, they'll survive Palm Springs.

We live in Palm Desert and can’t believe they are having it here in the summer.
I think the Parade Planning Committee must have visited here in January when it Is beautiful. We have heard that the main hotel is actually in Indian Wells and the incredible Thermal Club racetrack is only 15 minutes away. |
Parade is all about newer Porsche’s... the first time Porsche owners with their GT4s were all thumbing their noses at my early 930 at Parade in Spokane. This was my first and last Parade. I went home early, and pissed off.
