What to do in New Orleans
 

I am heading to New Orleans for the API conference next week.

What are 2 or 3 must do things in New Orleans?

hahah, I just recently went through this same thing myself and found a few threads. I'll see if I can dig up what I found.

Royal Street galleries (Frank Relle's in particular)
DBA on Frenchman Street.
Maple Leaf on either Tues (Rebirth) or Thurs (johnny v trio)
Gallitores, Commanders, Brennan's
Garden District walk and Lafayette #1
Enough?

Going down there today to see some engineering firms. At this time of year, especially next week...find and stay in Air Conditioning. AT 8;30 this morning, its 86 degrees and humidity is at 70%. Actually under a heat advisory, Even for locals its gotten really swampy early this year.
But if your looking for a really good place to eat, that's not wrapped up in tourist traps go to Mandina's. The WW 2 museum is very worth the time, but you can spend a full day and half there, but its also inside, Air Conditioning!

We were there in May. We went to Galatoires. It was good, but my wife was unimpressed, especially considering that it's fairly expensive. We just weren't that impressed.

We both preferred "Court of Two Sisters" for dinner. We also enjoyed Royal House.

There's lots of interesting shops on Royal St.

We also did a Garden District Walking tour through the Two Chicks Walking Tour which was 2 hours and included some time in one of the old cemeteries.

Our first stop, after checking in to the hotel, is Acme Oyster for a dozen charbroiled Oysters.
Just do it.

Haven't been in ages...but a veteran. Listen to Greg on the music scene...but it's summertime....ferget walkin' tours :)! I keed, the 2-chicks/cemetary tour ....yep.

Get out of the Qtr....enjoy;

Eat anywhere... ;)

Tourist must do....sit in the patio at Pat O's...have a hurricane...enjoy....

The one in Metairie...get out of the Fr. Qtr. ;)

Kill at least one afternoon at the Acme oyster bar eating oysters and getting drunk.
Eat at least one dinner at Emeril’s restaurant.
Hit some antique shops and art galleries in the quarter.
If you’re still there on the weekend, finagle your way onto one of the French quarter balconies and spend all night talking women out of their clothing.

Eat.
Drink.
Sleep.

If they are still as strong as when I was there SIP SLOWLY! You've been warned. Café au lait and beignets as well as a fresh muffalatta (sp?) just to say you did.

Oysters??? forget Acme and go to Dragos's. A New Orleans institution! With this heat and humidity the French Quarters will be fill of "odors" that you will not forget. And if you do go to the quarters, anytime after midnight stgay in well trafficked areas, the random crime has really gotten out of hand.
I will agree to Court of Two Sisters, however you have to walk a few blocks in the quarters to get there, and again, its friggin hot down here today.

Port of Call for a burger.

Café du Mond for café au lait and beignets, Masperro's for lunch (muffulatto), Galatoires for dinner(no reservation but worth it), Pat O'Briens dueling piano bar (or flaming fountain patio) for a mint julep (not a "hurricane"), Camillia grill for a "freeze" and late night snack, Sazerac bar at the Roosevelt hotel for a Sazerac cocktail.

Really to bad Nick's Big Train Bar is gone, you could have had a pousse cocktail, or banana banchee (but that would lead to a Dueller (RIP) redo)

Best sign up for a gym membership when you get back.
