That is an amazing story, I read about it years ago... the engineering it took to get it out was impressive to say the least.

Mike Patey's Draco bush plane looks to be going into production in the near future. Spectacular specs and innovative engineering involved. Lightweight but with huge engine and tires.
He's a Carrol Shelby or Elon Musk of aircraft design.

https://dracoaircraft.com/
The Pratt & Whitney PT6A-135A turboprop engine, coupled with a 102-inch, five-blade MT propeller, propels DRACO to unparalleled performance. With a mere 80-foot takeoff distance, a 4,200-feet-per-minute climb, and a stall speed of around 35 mph, DRACO redefines the standards for STOL aircraft.

Another of his builds:

Not only do these bikes mount underneath Scrappy’s wings, but the electric bikes are charged by solar panels on each wing.

He survived a catastrophic engine failure at very high 22k AGL altitude with another build, a Lancair Legacy with turboprop. The cabin may have been unpressurized. It was a name-proven used engine which exploded without warning. The threat of fire was great during that very long glide and successful return to earth. His second unintended landing while toeing the line.

-For reference, oxygen is required over 12.5k AGL. https://www.flyingmag.com/private-pilot-supplemental-oxygen-requirements/

-The ceiling for that aircraft is normally 18k AGL https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lancair_Legacy

-Gov ruled against him: https://avbrief.com/ntsb-says-mike-patey-knowingly-installed-unserviceable-engine-before-uncontained-failure/
The NTSB says show pilot and YouTuber Mike Patey knowingly installed an unserviceable 850-horsepower PT-6 turboprop in his highly modified Lancair Legacy “Turbulence” and that was a contributing factor in the uncontained failure of the engine over Minnesota on July 20, 2023. The board’s final report into the incident said purchase documents for the engine stated the engine was unserviceable.

A favorite bush plane in MS Flight Sim is the CubCrafters NX Cub:

A tricycle Cub? Heresy, I tell you! :D

The pic on the cover of the magazine is of the previous Draco, crashed in a crosswind takeoff attempt. It was turboprop.

767 blows out eight tires on landing at Atlanta today. Could he have landed that hard or did the brakes lock up?

All of the tires indicates a brake system failure.

I saw inside passenger cell footage of this one landing in Somalia. Worldwatch i think. The approach was way too high and still well past the markers at speed. Probably middle of the runway at that point it looked like. PIC should have gone around. Instead they forced it into the ground and the landing gear crushed rolling it.

Thanks for that! We were 2 behind him for landing and had to go around and hold for @:30 minutes or so before we could get sequenced over to the south complex. We knew it was a Latam plane but didn't know what happened!
