.My Renaultsport Clio 172 Cup was the most chuckable and responsive car I have ever driven. 7200rpm achievable in the first 4 gears, and only 20 mph/ 1000rpm in fifth so the 172 bhp 1000Kg car would accelerate well even in top and the transient roll oversteer would facilitate high cornering sppefs

a big torquey V8 is a good substitute


I once had a landlord (when I was in Penn.) who worked in NYC - he had a really fugly old orange Jeep with a V8, bumpers hanging off * flappy; rust all over and a V8 in it

He loved the fact that he could intimidate cab drivers in the city

To me, there are different criteria.

In a daily driver fun involves low stress.

This means something the SUV's will see and not run me over.

This excludes motorcycles.

This excludes sports cars unless very brightly colored.

Road and traffic environment change what is fun.

No budget has been set.

A smart car with an engine swap to be 300HP and a neon orange paintjob would probably make a good choice as a fun daily driver. It is tall, the color would make it noticeable. It would be easy to park because of the small size.

Reality, I have several cars, I take whichever suits the traffic/weather/road that I expect.

While not performance oriented or quirky like many of the above, my 6-speed MT '16 Mazda 3 has really grown on me. I bought it as a cheap and economical commuter and airport car (ABQ is 105 miles from home and I fly a ton for work).

It's anonymous here in Los Alamos - there's (relatively) scads of them in this town - apparently scientists like them when they're not buying Subarus. It drives great and, even with stock suspension, really wants to turn. At sea level I'm sure the NA engine is more than enough for its purpose but up here at 7000'+ it could use more oomph.

I wish we'd have looked at the Mazda version of the soccermommobile before we bought the Hyundai Santa Fe. Even with the higher output engine, the Korean CUV is about as much fun as a toaster oven.

I'm in the SUV crowd also. I ordered a new Chev Trailblazer SS back in 2007. The factory 6.0 ,395 hp, air suspension, and 20 inch rims are nice. The torque and handling are impressive.

It has over 150k miles and still runs great.

I used to daily drive my 924S when I did sales calls for the dairy and it was great at getting you home in good shape when you left your last call at 5 PM and had two hours of open highway driving before you got to your door yard.
More recently, I daily drove a '90 Miata. I also did some three hour trips with it, but (maybe because I am older) it was best enjoyed on jaunts of under an hour. You could flog it unmercifully on the back roads and all was good.

No fun toys in the stable these days:(

I'm an active 87 year old with a 2011 MiniCooperS Hatchback. Can't wait to drive it to the store or where ever; exciting and challengingl. Wear my Korean Vet hat when I drive it; car is red with racing stripes and checkered rear outside mirrors and sometimes attracts police attention. When stopped wearing the hat, so far all I've heard is, "Thank you for your service, sir. Please drive a little slower." First sports car since I sold my '53 TD MG (British racing green) in 1956.

If I didn't log 80 miles on the regular, I'd like to summer daily a warmed over CTS-V v1.0. Sweet performance in a largely invisible sedan.

I bought a used 2008 BMW 328i E92. After a little work including a used ABS pump, it has been working well for me with the exception of 3 recalls. Now all I need is a fresh paint job!

Have always wanted an IS300... such a cool well balanced package.

In order of funness:

'16 Cayman (new to me and may drop down the list as the new wears off)
'72 2002 Tii (nimble and cheap to keep)
'89 951 (quiet, fast and 500+ mile fill-ups)
'86 GTI (squirtable)

My daily driver is a 2014 Fiesta ST. Sweet six-speed, 197 HP turbo 1.6L, 2700 lbs. and factory Recaros for just a bit over 20K new.

Of course, Ford has decided to abandon the car business and production is no more. Same with the Focus ST. Sigh.
