For the last several days, it's been fun googling the C8 and running into some artist's renditions of what they thought it would/could be.
This one is interesting. A lamborghini corvettador? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1564070922.jpg |
I like that one better than what GM accomplished.

Mopar almost did a mid-engine with the Viper.

Mid-engined cars like the Cayman or a Lotus Exige are more agile feeling because most of the rotational mass is at the center, like a spinning top. By agile, I mean able to change direction quickly. My 07 Exige S was the most agile car I owned. A 944, by contrast, feels less agile because it is more like a barbell, as mausraum says, with weight at the ends of the car. It takes longer to make it change direction. The pay-off is that it feels more stable to the driver.
The downside to the agility of mid-engined cars is that they are harder to recover once they break away. It took a lot to exceed the Lotus's limits, but once you did, it was going around. By contrast, you could pretty much drive the 944 like a dirt track or drift car and still be able to catch it. Given most Americans' lack of experience with mid-engined handling dynamics, I suspect GM has set the nannies step in pretty decisively. |
Polar moment, angular momentum and all that.

Went to a cruise in last weekend. Got to talk to a few vette owners that had the newer vettes. It was surprising how many were going to be trading for the new vette. It's not like their Z06 version was a slouch but they were all very enthusiastic about the new mid engine. Also talked to a McLaren P1 owner who was going to sell the P1 and buy the new Vette. That one REALLY shocked me.
|
If this actually happens (all the 2020 vettes are apparently pre-sold however) there will be a glut of pretty affordable and really high performing cars all over the place. Awesome!!
I'm biased but I still find the C6 and C7 Z06 and ZR1 versions to be pleasing to the eye in person even if a little less so on paper or a screen. Quote:

I would only consider the C6 in the widebody form.(Grand Sport, Z06, ZR1, etc...)
I am in a bit of conflict as I'd love a 2nd Corvette, but want one I can tank the roof panel off. That leaves me with a C6 Grandsport and not a C6 Z06. I could sell the C5 Z06 and get a C5 Coupe, then add a C6 Z06... 'Vettes are addicting, I could easily become a collector of many of them when I save up to build a car hanger somewhere. C5 Z06, C6 Z06, C7 Coupe, that would be a nice trio. |
Local dealer has deposit money on 8 C8s already. They do not even have the actual priceing at this point.
|
My local dealer wants $2500 for a deposit, I told him they aren't going to have an allocation problem and I'd like to have the first production run bugs worked out first. I've had a handful of first-run cars and the recalls get annoying...

This isn't a Miata in the 80's. These things are going to be sitting on lots.

It'll take a bit of time, but I believe the same will happen with the mid engine Corvette. |
Just saw a photo of the first one wrecked....one day old.
