How backasswards is that, banning people's choice awards? So long as everybody knows how it works who cares?

I entered a small art show and regretted it as soon as I saw the other entrants' work. But I did win People's Choice and nobody freaked. The 1st, Second and Third prize-winners deserved their rankings because their work showed more skill and talent than mine.

When people not even there are voting it is not a true peoples choice award. Its a guy that uses the internet to effect the outcome award. That truck may have been due a clean old truck award but if you offered the crowd a car to take home, would anyone pick it ? Look at the pics.

I'm not denying the OP point. $hit happens when there's people involved. But the remedy is not to ban the prize. Ban the nefarious mechanisms that corrupt the contest.

...Somehow.

Maybe they should continue to system but change it to Internet Trolls Choice Award?

About 30-45 minutes down the road from Chattanooga they have a car show on the 4th Saturday of the month. 5-600 cars show up (300 on a bad day). No entry fee, no awards, just drive in and park. Likewise there is no charge to visit. It is fun because there is no tension and you get to see a bunch of different cars (albeit mostly American classics and hot rods). This always a half dozen old school V Dubs and another half dozen token foreign cars. You'll see a rat rod parked next to a pristine original 50's or 60's family car parked next to a hot-rodded muscle car parked next to a wild custom car parked next to...

A real solution is pick some charity and charge to vote.

Then even if he went online and got 500 people to vote...

What harm was done?

This guy promoted the car show in drumming up votes; why be bitter about sharing his passion?

A few months ago a close friend played a Battle of the Bands. All the bands believed Mom's Rocket should have won, and they all said so, but the winner was the worship band whose congregation showed up to vote.

I'm putting together a car show with one of my Shrine Brothers , and of course, people's choice awards, as we plan on using that format, has been a topic. Then I talked to one of my Masonic Brothers , who has a lot of experience as his shop has painted a lot of the local street rods, been involved with the North Florida car clubs and car shows.
He informed me that if we only had a "People's Choice " award, that we wouldn't get much support from the Street Rod community because of ballot stuffing. So now, I added a Masonic 1 through 3 awards and same thing with sponsors, Brothers from each Lodge represented will judge for the the Masonic awards and the Sponsors will do the same thing. I hope that fixes the issue.
If anyone is interested, the car show, swapmeet and music event is October 19th, all cars and clubs welcome and we have a great location. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1565565251.jpg

They’re not banning anything, they just don’t plan to offer it. Their point is why spend money on a trophy and sponsor this award just to piss off a lot of people? Everyone at the show knew there were shenanigans going on, and some of them accused the folks running the show.
As the guy who ran this show for 20 years, I understand. It doesn’t make sense to put forth time, money, and effort just to receive bad publicity.
