Split (ductless) AC unit for bedroom

We have to replace the split AC system in the bedroom.
Old system worked great for 10+yrs, but the fan ran constantly, so basically fan noise all night.
Do any of the split systems actually cycle like a regular Ac system, that is turn off when they reach temperature and turn back on as needed? We have newer systems that cycle when in humidity control mode, but none that cycle by temperature.
We have a great AC guy that can fix anything, but unable to find what I am looking for.
While I am asking, any brands that are quieter than the Mitsubishi?
This place can find anything!!
Thanks
Gary

I installed a new model Mitsubishi unit last year. It has a variable speed fan that speeds up or slows down based on the cooling requirement needed. It is so quiet that when the unit was first installed I checked it on a regular basis to make sure the unit was running. Great unit, Highly recommend the Mitsubishi.

I installed this Mitsu in my 24 x 28 man cave garage with 12 ' ceilings over a year ago it is whisper quiet but as you stated the fan continues to run . That is the way these were designed I believe . I am in North GA. mountains so we get four seasons with summer being the most extreme with heat/humidity . This does a great job in my man cave I run it 24/7 . I have no affiliation with this company but it is where I purchased from . In a previous garage I purchased this same unit from Ecomfort another great online retailer . In my opinion Mitsu is the best there is .

Mine runs all the time also. However, you may look into nest and other controls/timers that could turn it off on a timer or stat.

I have a Fujitsu thats so quiet I cant hear in on low. High isnt loud but you do hear it.

Mitsubishi has a system where you have 1 compressor outside and then you can run 2 seperate air handlers. I was tempted to get one and put one in my garage and one in my master bedroom with are both along the same wall on my house.

Reason being our room is always the hottest in the hottest months being on the south side of the house. Plus I have been wanting a garage unit.

My AC guy, who is very honest told me to be careful because he has yet to see a wall unit that did not develop mold problems behind it. This may be a high humidity Florida thing, I am wondering if anyone running these systems has any problems like this?

gchappel - I think you will find the newer units to be much quieter. Technology has changed a lot in the last 10 years.

Thanks for the input. The variable fan options sounds like it will fit my needs well.
No mold behind our wall unit after 10yrs.

Your in FloRida too.

Good to know, sometimes these AC guys get really full of themselves and think they are experts on everything.

I may buy my own unit and self install, my nephew is an HVAC guy for Palm Beach county and is allowed to do side work.

I just need him for charging the system. I think I can handle the install.

Jims5543 just an FYI most mini splits are shipped pre charged with refrigerant . Unless your line set lengths are very long all that is needed is a vacuum pull to make sure no leaks and then release the pressure charge . I have installed two of these and haven't had to add any refrigerant .

I did mine. Pulled a vac, made sure it didn't leak overnight, then released the charge. It's not rocket scientry. Hardest part was brazing the copper lines, if that is necessary.

Not sure if this matter to you, I just install a Sam Sung unit for a client's bedrooms on the upper floor. this has a photo insert and it looks like a picture frame instead of that big-o-square box of a blower. Its a few bucks more, but a lot better looking and quiet too. Three blowers for two small bedrooms and their study. A single one can be had I suppose?

Wow, I wish they had the picture frame model 10 years ago- would have been perfect for our use. We also have 3 bedrooms with splits. It will not work for our present system replacement, bummer. Thanks
