My old 996 for cheap!

This is a great car with a ton of mods on it but likely just had a rod bearing failure... I sold it to him @ 1 1/2 years ago. So tempting to buy it back!. He said he would take @$7.5K for it!

$7,500 doesn't seem that cheep for a roller.

What would you guess you'd be in to it for once the motor was replaced/repaired?

You can buy used engines for @$ 6-9K ish... Just depends on miles etc.. This is a MKII model, they regularly sell for mid 20s and are starting to go up ..and this one has a lot of upgrades. It sold last year for @25K I think.

Nice looking car, and the rare V-6 variant!
Bad rod bearings at 90k? Seriously? Remind me again why people buy Porsches.

Sorry but no way. It’s a pretty basic 996.2 with 90k and a blown engine. You can find similar cars with a good engine for $20k or less. A few months ago I was looking at a 996.1 with 60k and factory Aerokit for $16k. There are still good 996 deals out there.

996.1s , yes all day long, good 996.2s are usually still in the mid 20s. Of course there are some that are less, but a comparable with equal upgrades, will bring more. This one has tons of upgrades.. Like I said, it sold for @25K last year...

My 996 has 207k miles and runs great on its original engine. It’s been my daily driver and airport car for 13+ years now and has almost never let me down. Great car.

I really enjoyed my 996.2. High mile car, still solid, spent $$$$ on suspension and AOS/associated issues, hoses, brakes, tires, etc... Was a wonderful car but expensive. Likely I bought something on the cheap and spend my $$ to get it back, sold it on the cheap, so money lost on my side but compared to what people lose in depreciation on new cars I came ahead.

Hoping to get another 80's 911 again before I die. Won't be a commuter this time...just an escape back to when life was simple.

Me too but it's hard to swallow today's prices. I've bid up near $30k for a stock 911SC on BaT and still lost out to someone willing to pay more.

Yup. For those of us who had them when they were affordable, today's reality is damn hard to take. I freaking loved my SC but there's no way I would pay what I sold it for last year.

Yes all the way. But what price do you put on going back in time? $35K / 2 = $17.5K. So that second $17.5K buys you a couple great diving vacations for 2 in Grand Cayman and Aruba. It's all about priorities and what floats the boat. I love diving, all our trips the last couple years and going forward center on diving, but I will give up a couple to go back in time. YMMV.

Yep. When I think about the price of bad things happening through no fault of my own*, it makes me anxious. Air cooled cars are more and more the provenance of a wealthier (or less thrifty) man than me.... still mighty sexy though!

*Uninsured drivers, modern gasoline issues, the unavailability or incremental cheapening of service, replacement and wear items...

I’d love to get a driver quality car and just..... wait for it..... drive it. Sadly that’s an easy $35k in today’s pricing. Too rich for my blood.

Same here, I liked my G50 Carrera that I sold a year and a half ago, but wouldn't pay anywhere near what I got for it.
I still smile when I think about what I paid for it in 2009 and the money sitting in my account.
