Is this a scam? Suspect so...

Trying to buy 4 Eagles/Bears tix. Respond to a Craigslist ad, am asked to "provide your ebay user name and i'll invoice through ebay so that we're both protected."

Never heard of such a thing...

Sounds perfectly legit ;)!

If you responded with email and give them your ebay user name they will spoof the email and get into the ebay account. Then try for your paypal I'd guess.

Simple. Your ebay username is scams@fbi.gov.

cabmandone 10-22-2019 12:41 PM

Give me your ebay username and I'll tell you if it's a scam.

Ok, that's making sense. He asked for my non cl coded email. Then the username.

Couldn't come up with the play, but that's it...he'll hack into my ebay having the username and spoofing the email to change the pw, then do god knows what.

All he needs is your email address and he can send you a Paypal invoice. Done this many times.

I am not an IT expert, but I dont think this is correct. They still need your password and if you have enabled 2 step verification, you have nothing to worry about.

You'll get a couple of ebay emails re" billed for shipping. It'll be for a couple bucks max. You'll think it's phising and ignore it till you get a slew of them 24-48 hours later and find you've been soaked for $70.00 in shipping.

You'll get your money back when you file a report but I suspect many victims of that scam assume the emails from ebay are BS and never look at them.
