Car choice

So I have mixed thoughts on this, if you had the options, would you buy:

A new GT4 and sell your Cayman, or
Buy an 07 F430 in mint condition and keep the Cayman, or
Do nothing and save more for retirement

I know, first world problems eh!

Just thinking out loud and respect (most of) your opinions :D

I've got a Boxster S.

I haven't driven a 430 or a GT4, but I think if it was my choice, I'd go with the GT4 as something that should be cheaper and more practical :D in the long run than any Ferrari.

A lot can be said for doing nothing.

Spend money on experiances instead.

GT4 is a great car but has become a status symbol of geezer first time Porsche owners.

Still my vote is GT4.

That’s counter intuitive?

Noah930 11-21-2019 07:47 PM

GT4. Easy choice for me.

I see a trend here (in a Porsche forum) :D

Everyone should own at least one red Ferrari and bag at least one redhead in their life. Get it out of your system, then settle down into a nice, long term relationship with something more reliable.

stealthn 11-21-2019 08:12 PM

That’s good stuff!

I already have reliable x 2, plus a wife (non redhead)

I see where this is going, but I would be sad to give up the Cayman...awesome car.

911boost 11-21-2019 09:21 PM

The GT4 looks pretty sweet and I always gravitated towards 911’s due to the rear seats. My current one is comparable to the GT4 I’d say and doesn’t have rear seats....

Have you driven both?

stealthn 11-21-2019 09:44 PM

No, the GT4 is a unicorn, all of them get sold (I am on a wait list), the 430 I’ll be trying next week.

I know it seems stupid a brand new car versus a 12 year old one. But I would take a Carrera RS :)

911boost 11-21-2019 10:11 PM

Is the 430 a manual? Did they come in them? As you can tell I know nothing about F-cars... they sure look pretty though.

How long is the waitlist do you think?

stealthn 11-21-2019 10:15 PM

Paddle, manuals were super rare. First allocation was only 4 cars, dealer has requested more, no idea how many are in front of me, but they said if they did get more it would be a June-ish delivery

911boost 11-21-2019 10:23 PM

That would answer the question for me, I like my fun cars to have three pedals...

Waiting till June is rough though.

Well, would you be happy to live off 4% of your projected retirement fund? If not, then 3rd option is it.

Otherwise, get the GT4. YOLO.

rusnak 11-21-2019 11:31 PM

In my case I've already got a Cayman S with 6-speed manual gearbox, limited slip, pasm, I added GT3 suspension upgrade, 6 piston calipers, 19 inch wheels, etc etc.

I just got a Macan S for the GF and I can see the wisdom in having a multi mode Porsche fleet, so to speak.

I guess of the available choices given, I'd do nothing. I am happy that I bought the Macan S.

ckelly78z 11-22-2019 03:05 AM

The Ferarri will never stop costing you $$, I really like the GT4.

I walk or ride a bicycle and enjoy retirement :)

Tervuren 11-22-2019 03:46 AM

I'd be in favor of the Ferrari + Cayman as it gives you options each day.

That said, new Porsches are aliens when it comes to their technological wizardry. The F430 will be an older cruder bucket of bolts in comparison.

billybek 11-22-2019 05:31 AM

Lol.
I was thinking how does a Ford pickup fit into this?
Coffee kicked in by the end of the thread.
One of my neighbors is getting the GT4. He rolls through Porsches faster than I go through a pair of jeans.
Wish I had the time and the $$$ to have that problem.
How many klicks on the Cayman these days?
