Seven people were shot in Houston on Sunday night during a family dance party at a flea market.

The shooting at Mercado Sabadomingo happened after 7 p.m. when one person was struck in the leg, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a news conference. The bullet appeared to exit the man's leg, ricocheting and hitting six others.

The six people hit were brought to the hospital, where most were treated for "minor wounds," the sheriff said. None of the injuries were critical.

Gonzalez said the man who was initially shot had a gun in his pocket and is now in custody. Police are still investigating how the shooting occurred, but the sheriff believes the man's gun went off in his pocket. He said his department doesn't know if he was "fumbling" with his pistol or intended to shoot someone. Police believe there may have been a second bullet shot, and think the man, who they are not currently identifying, was drinking at the time of the shooting.

bullets loose energy when they ricochet.

Only thing I can imagine is that the bullet struck some kind of hard object that released shards and those hit more people..

like bullet his a brick, brick shatters and bystanders get peppered with brick.
or bullet his gravel in the ground, gravel goes flying, peppers people.

1 single bullet actually hitting 7 people in 1 firing is just not possible.

This reminds me of 20 some years ago. I was at a shooting competition in Gunnison. Just watching, it was a bunch of cops and pros. Heard a whizzing and a bullet hit me in the arm and fell on the ground. Must have been a ricochet that had lost all it's power. I picked it up and gave to a friends son who was there. It was still smoking hot. Not sure how a bullet could even injure seven people at once.

The article did say that they think there may have been a second bullet. So maybe 2 bullets, 7 people.

Also, there's probably a huge difference in ricochet energy depending upon the angle that the bullet hit whatever in ricocheted on. Then there's the possibility that the bullet fragmented and pieces of the bullet hit several folks. The article did say that it was a dance, and the bullet was in the guys pocket. If you had a crowd of folks on the dance floor all near the "shooter" or the site of the ricochet, then maybe ....

The ground at that location is all concrete. I expect that he was in a crowd dancing and the bullet fragmented upon hitting the concrete. They might have been hit by concrete.

I can't make it out for certain, but there does appear to be a 30.06 (No Guns) sign on the main building.



30.06 refers to the Texas Statute.

Illegally carrying a gun

Arrest record is out - With the Unlawful carry arrest, he would have been ineligible for a concealed carry license. So, he was also illegally carrying a firearm. There is no allowable unlicensed carry of a pistol in Texas, outside one's home or business.
