For example, incoming rifle rounds would impact and the resulting audio would come a split second before the audio of the shots' being fired. Also, the delay seemed tied to the distance from which the shot came and the reverse was true when protagonists fired. I cannot remember experiencing that in other movies.

disclaimer: I hope I have this correct.

The audio of virtually all movies and TV shows is pure fantasy. Explosions almost always have the boom and the visual at the exact same moment, even in space where it would be totally silent.

Cars have screeching tires in the rain or dirt, or snow. Almost all cars have squeaking brakes. They are not documentarys, just a movie. Reality has nothing to do with it.

Yes. This was the point I attempted to make with respect to 1917. They seemed to make an conscious effort at being authentic.

Saw it last night. It was one of those mega-giant screen HD theaters and unfortunately my seat was a bit closer to the screen than optimal. But the motions seemed blurry, yet sharp and vivid in still scenes. But probably a function of the theater/seating.

The storyline was very good and well filmed, for sure. I thought it went a bit longer than it should have and, although a good movie, not one I'll see again. Similar to others here. The acting was excellent and I always like movies with great acting by unfamiliar actors. Adds a touch of reality. How many times can you see Mathew McConaghey (sp?) or Al Pacino and still take it seriously?

Im pretty picky about WW1 movies....
This one I found ;

- Geographically incomprehensible (or incoherent - or both)
- No signs of 1600 troops staging for an attack ?(or the Germans pulling out ?) like trampled ground ? or support troops behind the (new) front line ?- or anyone guarding the rear as they listen to the singing ?
- The only live civilian he runs into happens to be a comely lass ? - of course...
- Not much of an artillery barrage by Germans setting a trap for the attack and then quickly ended
- That was a mighty short trip to the rather well appointed (for a front line) aid station - and not a round landing near it before during or after - and right out in the open.
- A general in the front line trench in WW1 ? during an offensive ??????!!!!!!
Not bloody likely - at least I have never read of any examples of that in histories or primary sources or letters.

I know I know - just a movie - and OK - but that was no Paths of Glory or All Quiet...

They Shall Never Grow Old - Extaordinary

Saw it today.
Overall a good movie.
Very real-looking..esp in the trenches.
One of the things that bothered me,was Schofield stopping in the middle of being fired at...to stop and fawn over an unknown baby for a half hour. Not likely at all.

Enjoyed it.. the one shot gimmick was cool for a few scenes but tiresome overall... I hope it doesn't become a thing in new movies... Use it for the battle for full effect, maybe not the entire movie ?

I was worried about Cumberbatch not listening, but that turned out not to be a thing (despite them hinting at it - strange plot fork that went nowhere)... Overall a decent movie definitely worth watching on a big screen, kinda rekindled my interest in WW1. Reminiscent of Dunkirk to me, nice to see modern efforts at that era (WW1 and 2)...

Dunkirk in 70mm was stunning. Saw it that twice and in "normal" format. Normal it was not nearly as good.

Just saw it. Personally wasn't overly impressed. It had some moments and the cinematography was good and sets were good which I assume were largely CGI. But other parts left me saying are you kidding? Much like the Revenant. The Germans couldn't shoot worth a sheit, then the guy is being chased and shot at by several Germans, ducks in a door way, stumbles upon a person and has a conversation like nothing is happening and the Germans don't coming looking for him?

Ehhh, Band of Brothers, saving Private Ryan much better.

Same here.
Saw it, I didn't demand my $7 back but I also don't believe it was money well-spent.
