Talking about God, there are two things written quite clearly in the Bible:

One is:

Thou shall not kill

The other is:

If someone hits you on one cheek, tender the other cheek.

Then you have GW having his prayer sessions in the White house and showing himself has a good christian.
He is everything but that. And this is looking more and more hypocritical to the rest of the world. That will be it for now, I have to watch the french news...

Gee, I must not be as good a christian as GW, I don`t even know my Bible by heart...
Watching the french news, there was this little iraqui kid who was amputated of his two arms and his legs too. The doctors managed to keep him alive for 21 days, and his state is now good. But he needs to be flown out of iraq. Maybe the french news are biased, but I know I would not not have seen that on Fox. Also, I wonder why the marines did not prevent the looting of hospitals. I guess they have their priorities, like securing the oil fields. They should also look for those weapons of mass distraction a little better, I am a bit disappointed by the findings so far. But I hear they might be in Syria. Hey, it worked so well the first time, why not try a second time ? ;)

Sorry, I wasn't too clear on that. I meant use the search function on this board. DWD, also known as the "while I'm in there" syndrome, is an illness most closely associated with, but not exclusive to, I'm sure, up-fixing of 914's.

As the story goes, Dirk started with a simple repair in mind, but due to the onset of the disease, kept disassembling rather than reassembling, because it made sense to do so "while (he was) in there". Ended up with a garage full of parts, never to be reassembled into a working vehicle again.

Gotcha. It is always easier to dismantle things than to rebuild them properly. But for rebuilding good stuff (not like those terrible american cars), the french and the germans are here ;)

The sense this makes to me is that this is God talking here. He is the one who is in charge to lay vengence. Not GW. No human has the right to substitute himself to God. Does that make any sense to you ?

Yes, Yes, we all saw Pulp Fiction and it was a great movie. In an interview when the film came out, Samuel L Jackson mentioned that he actually improvised / paraphrased the above quote from the complete Ezekiel 1 - 17. Type Ezekiel into google, take a look at the whole item.

In reality, while cool, the above quote is really nothing more than any other movie quote. Sorry Jorge.

God, bible, nothing else but a book full of stories and rumours (which tend to get bigger when the story goes from mouth to mouth)

This does not actually follow the thread, but humans or any other living beings are nothing more than biomechanical machines with enough neurons so that one can think and such. When the body dies, your so called soul dies. Nothing more than electrical impulses.

So, Zendalar, do you beleive that life was a random event ? It is hard to believe for me when I look at how complex us bimechanical machines are built. This implies a pretty darn good ingeneer. Now, if there wrere more atheists, maybe the world would be a more peaceful place, so I have no problem with your disbeleif in God.

It would be pretty cool if there were something beyond death, but...

Lets assume that in distant future man is capable of building a neural computer. If it learns and comes indeed self-aware, would it have a soul? Machine that thinks and knows that its alive. I think it would commit suicide as soon as it "saw" that it were only a machine.

Basically human brain is just a huge computer. Now, its already possible to build organs (yea, one can "print" a liver for example..well some organ anyway..saw this in a science magazine, experimental, basically you print cells on top of each others..) and maybe in the future human is capable of replacing brain cells. What if all the cells are replaced, the person still feels that he is himself, but is the soul lost? What would make the soul? At what point would one loose the soul? What would be the part of the brain that has the soul?

Right now its possible to hook "cameras" directly to optic nerve, "microphones " to replace ears. It might be possible some day that human brain is just a lump in some glass jar that has these sensors attached to it, no body, just some batteries attached to sensors, some fluid which would provide enough oxygen to the so called brain -> To the part where the "soul" is(concience). This is possible.

Would that be "human"? Would that be a creation of God?

I would submit to you that it is ALL of God. I am not going to try to sway your convictions, you have every right to believe however ever you believe, that is your coice.

The reason I say that it is all of God, however is this:

take a look at nature. Everything in nature is designed or has adapted to it's way of life. The fox has its slyness and cunning which it uses to survive. The rabbit uses its speed to evade the fox. The cheetah uses its speed to hunt and the gazelle uses its quickness and body markings to confuse a cheetah.

Man on the other hand was blessed to be given our brain. this is the tool we have learned to use and expand upon for our survival. We learned that we could put a sharp rock on the end of a stick and use this for hunting and/or fighting. We learned to use things such as fire and the wheel. We have developed enough knowledge that we are now able to do the things you speak of in the fields of science and medicine. Using our brain is how we survive. Our brain is man's gift from God.

Now, as far as scripture goes, we could sit here and type passage after passage on how this war in Iraq was justified or not. For instance the book of Jeremiah states in Jeremiah 51:11 Make sharp the arrows; hold firm the shields: Jehovah hath stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes; because his purpose is against Babylon, to destroy it: for it is the vengeance of Jehovah, the vengeance of his temple

And in 51:12 Set up a standard against the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set the watchmen, prepare the ambushes; for Jehovah hath both purposed and done that which he spake concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.
Babylon is known in modern times as Baghdad.

Whatever passage one may write, it can usually be interpreted in more than one way. You are correct that the Bible is a collection of stories that have been translated by men over time, and quite possibly interpreted or misinterpreted to suit a specific mood of the time. I can't deny that at all. Thats why you have to do the research! Like anything else, if one is going to either quote scripture or refute it, one should really have an understanding of what they are talking about.
