It is truly a magnificent combination, trader220. My 1993 Ducati 900SS and my 2013 HD Road King provide a wonderful contrast in motorcycling genres. One or the other always fits the current mood.

You would be amazed just how many of us right here on this forum own 900SS's. Probably half a dozen or more. Gogar, one of the more recent to join our little club, once lamented he had "become a PPOT stereotype".
I've always seen my '72 911 hot-rod in pretty much the same light as my 900SS - not the most modern, most powerful, fastest, or best handling by any means, but somehow eminently suited to those 35-50-ish mph back roads. Both are "cafe racers" in their own right. Lots of crossover between the two. Interestingly, the subject of HD and Ducati cross-over ownership comes up quite often in both circles. Both readily acknowledge that it is a "thing". I remember a few years back, prior to Ducati having been purchased by Audi, that they made overtures to HD. HD turned Ducati down, and instead (somewhat infamously) purchased MV Agusta. Like that was a better "fit"? That little relationship, of course, did not last very long at all when HD discovered just how dysfunctional MV Agusta really were. I wonder where both would be today had that merger occurred.

I never had a 900SS but I owned an ST4 and an ST4S and I loved both of those bikes.
I wrecked the ST4S and when I replaced it I went a different direction. I bought an 07 BMW R1200S. I just never bonded with that bike. I could not get used to the low revving torque monster mill. I sold it after a little over a year. That's when I bought the Tuono. Its an incredible machine. Does everything so well. SO much fun.

1992 900SS owner.
I had ridden faster bikes. So many smooth, linear Japanese...instruments. Then this thing. It doesn't want to start. And when the weak starter does finally get it to fire up, its an active of pure violence. You want to accelerate? No problem. Stick a hand grenade under your helmet, and sit down on it, because the next thing you are going to feel is a kick in your ass, and a really lovely Brrrraaapp from the pipes. The A-10 Warthog language at its best.

My '93 is very easy to start. I was told the FCR's would make that markedly more difficult than the stock carbs, due to their lack of a choke or any cold start circuit. If anything, it seems they made it easier to start.
