Icon 917 replica

Have we talked about this yet?

Slight disappointment in the motor (tuned 964 3.6, putting out about 300 HP). Not that I would be expecting a flat-12, due to cost concerns. But original 917s had what, 500-600 HP motors?

Maybe turbocharge or supercharge that 3.6L.

That was my inclination, too. Seems more "right" (or less wrong?) than dropping in an LS.

I guess when one has more money than they know what to do with it makes sense. It is for sure a really cool looking car. From what I know about them they are difficult to drive on the track.

I can think of a lot of other things to do with money if I won the lottery. That would be about 85 on the list of to 100 thing to do when I win the lottery.

Well, it's shaped right.

Shaun @ Tru6 03-20-2020 01:02 PM

That looks like a nice try but the Laser remains the best "reminagined" 917 by far.

does the tube frame contain gas under pressure [crack check]

is an LS motor lighter then a 3.6 flat 6 ?

LS sure is cheaper to rebuild or replace

917 had 520 to 630 in enduro form the cam-am turbos double in Q spec 1500 claimed 1100 race

turbo LS can make 1000 hp lots cheaper

Oh what a disappointment! Only 295 hp in something that weighs 10% less than my NA Miata did.

I would love to drive one, if I could jam my 6'2" frame into it.

Best
Les

Hey Jim, How are You guys doing?

My friend John, you met at Lufk, bought one about 8-9 months ago. No, not the real one, but a replica that was made in Australia. Its very well done and he's taken it apart, restoring it. He's thinking about a 930 engine. It has a 3.2 in there now.

We’re good...locked down...you know the drill. And you guys? SmileWavy

Sound like John’s gonna have a fun car. Canyon carving or track?

You can never have too much horsepower.

You guys walking down to the ocean at all?

Cabin fever has already gotten to me, so I go out and take a short walk around the canyons in neighborhood. There isn't anyone around.

That car is just going to sit. Maybe see daylight once every blue moon to a car show or something. I have only seen pictures of it but its sitting at a detail shop somewhere in OC getting cleaned up. I hear there are lots of rat poo in it.

I'm betting that for many/most of us, 300hp in 1,984 pounds would be plenty. I'm sure after a while you might want more, but it would be pretty insane.

It's a reimagined 917. Nothing wrong with that

I think I'd much rather have the Coyote from Hardcastle and McCormick

Agreed, LSD is a powerful imagineering drug. :)

Never did drugs, always wanted to try LSD though. Sadly, will never happen. Probably a good thing.
