I have a buddy with a large fleet of Ferraris. But he also hired away the whole crew from the local dealership maintain his fleet, which eventually became an independent shop.

Honestly, I would take a replica like Sonny's first car over the TR. That said, it is one of the few F cars I would take over the Lambo of the same period.

Great linked threads Java, thank you.

I am enjoying the non covid discussion.

I enjoy driving my cars, so that has always kept me away from an older Ferrari.

Wasn't Sonny's first one a chopped up Daytona?

Well, it was a kit car that resembled a cut Daytona.

You can drive any Ferrari, I did long trips a couple times in mine.

Ignore the BS that says otherwise.
Ignore the guys that tell you annual maintenance is 10 grand, or something equally stupid.

Two questions, as with any car.

Do you enjoy driving it?
Are you OK with the risk that applies to most old cars, in that there's usually something expensive that can bite you in the ass, if you're one of the unlucky few.

365 GTS fiberglass body on a Corvette frame. C3 frame I think. Real Spyders are not cheap but the kit would be. You get a nice looking car and Chevy prices for fixes. Not that the C3 is any better for reliability.

I can't blame Enzo for forcing them out of business really, and giving the TV series a Testarossa was a good move on his part.

The 308 series are still nice looking as is the 288 GTO. I think the Testarossa aged better than the newer Countach with the federal bumpers.

McLovin 03-23-2020 01:57 PM

Call me superficial, but I have to enjoy standing in the garage and looking at the car, as much (probably more) as driving it.

And for that reason on the Testarossa, I’m out.

None of the federalized Lamborghinis was ever worth buying. Some of them were hideous in appearance and they didn't run much better.

Call me a heathen, but I also can't stand the looks of the Diablo. I blame some committee at Chrysler for that.

Ferrari always did a better job of integrating the stupid federal bumpers, at least starting with the 328.

That said, I never liked the impact bumpers on a 911 or 930 and I owned a bunch of those...

As for the looks of a TR, they look quite different when viewed amongst other, regular cars, from a distance. What some perceive as "huge" turns out to be pretty small in reality.

And, if you're not worth 50 million, it's probably the only choice you'll have for putting a decent V12 behind you.

I saw a Countach at a repair shop the other day, it was probably a kit car, had a SBC in it. Lots of dust on it, so I guess the cheap version isn't much more reliable.

There isn't a kit car out there that I'd own.

And you didn't see a Countach, it was a heaping pile of someone else's crap.

Built on a corvette chassis.
I remember the episode when they blew it up.

Yeah, we all saw that. It was about as convincing as when they crashed a Ferrari in the movie Le Mans and those of us that know cars recognized it as a Lola T70 under the skin.

Damn waste of a T70...

I can remember when 40K would get you in that seat.

McLovin 03-23-2020 09:03 PM

You can get into that seat for surprisingly little more than that today.

Any decent TR is at least 80 grand today and the good ones are more than 100.

Heathen!

911boost 03-24-2020 09:53 AM

I am perfectly happy with my GT3RS and not looking to buy one, just enjoy hearing others thoughts on them.

Plus, its a non Covid-19 thread!

javadog 03-24-2020 10:04 AM

You gotta buy one now, we went to too much trouble for you to blow this off.

Get busy.
