Single DIN touchscreen for GM truck
Hey guys I have a 2001 GMC diesel dually with an aftermarket Pioneer radio . The radio has an intermittent issue so I want to replace . I would like to install a single DIN with a touchscreen to get a little more modern .
I am still a AM/FM/CD guy so want those features plus Bluetooth/GPS and backup camera ability . Our phones are Android based . I only have speakers in the doors so no concert arena 😁 . Doing some research the Boss brand seems to be a decent bang for the buck . They have models in the 150.00 - 250.00 range that may do the trick . Then there are brands I have never heard of that are all over the map on pricing . I am going to check Crutchfield to see what they have . Any suggestions from the Pelican brain trust on a decent setup for my truck ? |
Look at other Kenwood and Pioneer models.
Single DIN touchscreen is hard to find unless you want something that folds out (and then I think that's s lot of trouble). You might have to look at double DIN. What features do you want on the touchscreen? Nav? |
The touch screen would mostly be for GPS function . I currently have plug in GPS and radar detector .......... too many cords and clutter . On eBay as an example there are many pages of single Din touchscreen units available . I think 99% are from China and a variety of " brands " .
$159.00 can get a flip screen with GPS/antenna AND an included back up camera . Back up camera very handy for hitching up trailers solo . Almost all are Android compatible with Bluetooth . But if it's junk than it is no value . That's why I am asking for feedback hopefully from others that have gone this route . |
I also read that Boss are made in the US but reviews are spotty . Some say great while others say junk ☹️

Have you looked into a dash kit to convert to double din?

Check out Crutchfield and they will have what you want, I bet.
I see Porsche sells a new single DIN stereo for the old air cooled 911s that has Apple play and allows the stero to run your phone and lots of cool things. Just mind a numbing price of something like $1,400. I will pass. |
Check this out.
https://www.amazon.com/Metra-DP-3003-Double-Select-Trucks/dp/B01GKFVIOK And this is probably more what you'll need Then you pick up any 250-300 double din with backup camera, harness to wire from factory to new HU and run the backing camera from back to front. Modern look with modern function and no screen to accidentally break. https://www.amazon.com/Metra-DP-3002B-Double-Dash-1999/dp/B00T8U6EBM/ref=pd_lpo_107_t_1/147-7048128-0814704?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00T8U6EBM&pd_rd_r= c8260a61-63d0-4ee2-beba-4bbde713dae0&pd_rd_w=MrgBL&pd_rd_wg=YdL0v&pf_rd_p= 7b36d496-f366-4631-94d3-61b87b52511b&pf_rd_r=HF8R54FAWRED5MEHWTT7&psc=1&re fRID=HF8R54FAWRED5MEHWTT7 |

Glad I could help. I figured someone had to make a solution to install a double din. I just searched for 2001 GMC3500 double din radio install and two solutions popped right up. I watched a video and it looked like a pretty straight forward install.

Crutchfield is very helpful.
Call them..they are experts in the business. |

I just put a double DIN Pioneer and backup camera into my 2008 F250. If your dash has the space the double DIN is highly recommended especially if you are using GPS. Also get something with Android Auto so all of your phone apps like GPS will display in the radio. Great upgrade! |
