F150 console lid cover replacement

The vinyl lid on my Ford ‘14 Supercrew 5.0 with the console shifter is starting to crack from wear. I’ve ordered and received a new leather cover and I looked online on how to replace just the cover. My GoogleFu must be weak, as I didn’t find what I wanted. I did see that a steamer would help, but I don’t have one.

See below what it looks like now. Any way to install it without an pneumatic upholstery staple gun? Would an electric stapler work? The new cover doesn’t have a foam layer. Can I leave the old on as a cushion...or would that lead to problems? Would you just start in the center and work my out with clamps, with contact cement on the sides only?

Lots of questions, but I didn’t want to bugger it up experimenting.

Anyone replace the cover or have a link?

Thanks

Take the lid off and take both it and your cover to your local upholstery shop. They will probably do it for $10 while you wait...and be happy to do so (if you act suitably impressed with their skill).

I used a regular staple gun on the last dirtbike seat I replaced. Not saying it was the right way, but it turned out decent, and held up ok

Update. I was searching the wrong name. Lowe’s had a 1/4” air stapler for $35 or so. I left the old skin on, as I couldn’t find a store with thin foam. Anyway, it’s done and we’ll see how it holds up. Looks better.

I bought a felt like material slip cover with an elastic edge that fits over top and saves the leather. My GF dog likes to sit on the lid all the time. Search Amazon, it was around $20
