All my kin has come home.

You see a field of crosses and really think about what it means

All those men who didn't come back, families that never happened, practically all of them. What I think of anyway, or the ones that came back broken, never really getting any peace until they are under one of those crosses

If you aren't a alum or member of the Army JAG Corps this is likely not known to you.

The UCMJ Article 6 requires The Judge Advocate General (TJAG...3-Star) to make frequent inspection in the field in supervision of the administration of military justice. These visits are usually a dog and pony show when at Fort Swampy wherever.

However in 2003, the TJAG conducted this visit in Iraq. His senior enlisted and senior warrant officer of the Corps went on the visit. The CW5 (warrant officer) was within a few months of retirement and likely could have opted out. Not sure if the CSM was as close to retirement.

Regardless, on Nov 7, 2003, both were killed while flying in a Blackhawk from one installation to another as part of the site visit. Their helicopter was shot down by enemy fire.

Just goes to show that it doesn't matter why you are in theater or whether you are on the front lines (to the extent those exist anymore).

I usually have a lump in my throat on Memorial Day. Edit: forgot to say, I didn't know these two, but did know others that made the ultimate sacrifice. Plus I just consider myself very lucky to still be kicking around.

A very good friend (R.I.P. Ash) Father who has the highest ranking officer to survive the Bataan Death March and testify at the War Crimes trial and his testimony was directly responsible for Japanese generals hanging. He managed to keep a very detailed diary of the atrocities. So honor and think about those he wrote about in his diary.

A trip we made last Christmas. My first visit to Appomattox despite living in VA for 15 years. Also a pic from Lynchburg and Harrisonburg VA. Remember all who gave their lives. RIP

At Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day in 2006. Even though all those buried there did not die in combat, it is still a solemn place to remember those who did.

Memorial Day….is the day that is set aside to remember with gratitude and pride all those who served and died for our country and our freedom.

May your day and weekend be filled with happy memories and peace as we remember the many brave men and women who have given their lives through the history of our country to protect us from danger and harm. Let us remember all those who sustained injury in the mind and/or body in the course of their services. Let us salute all those who have, are, and will serve in the military.

God Bless and Thank You!

Over 2 million since 1775. They gave the ultimate sacrifice. One needs to take that into account being blessed to live however long.

Baz 05-26-2024 05:20 AM

Thank you, Milt.....

Excellent. Memorial day is not a "Happy" day for those who lost family, comrades in arms, and friends in war.

I have struggled with that greeting for many years as I know all too well the grief that comes with burying a fallen soldier. Now, I just accept it with as much grace as I am able.

To the Fallen I say...I remember you.
