A Quandry

Later today, I'll be driving Cindy to a medical appointment in an office roughly 20 miles away. Below an email from the clinic we got yesterday:

"The Corvallis Clinic Neurology Department, Waverly Drive, Albany

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cynthia,

This is regarding your appointment tomorrow. The Corvallis Clinic is here to care for you. For your safety, all patients and staff are required to wear a mask or face covering prior to entering any of our clinic locations. Masks or face coverings are not required for children 2 years and younger, and those with certain medical conditions.

If you suspect that you are experiencing symptoms of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), please call your department or provider before entering the building. Most cases of COVID-19 do not require a clinic or hospital visit.

To limit exposure to COVID-19, each patient and staff member receives a temperature check and is cleared for symptoms before entering any of our clinic buildings. Patients are also no longer able to bring visitors to appointments unless it is medically or legally necessary.

By following the right tips for prevention and active procedures, together we can minimize the impact of COVID-19 in our community. Patient and staff safety is our #1 priority.

Thank you,

The Corvallis Clinic

So, my quandary? I'm an old dog who has to stop at every tree. Young guys here won't understand, but fellow old dogs will.

My solution? I'm taking a copy of this email in case I get hassled for pissing in the parking lot. Screw 'em...when I gotta go I gotta go. I'll go to court if cited.

Just don't piss them off Paul....find a tree...but one not in the parking lot ;)

I was with my daughter for a clinic appointment today. No issues with my being there with her.

An elderly couple came in while we were in the waiting room and the check in nurse said they were limited to the patient only. The wife said something to the effect of "I need to be there with him" and that was the end of the conversation. Both checked in and waited for his appointment.

I'm sure that all that is needed Paul. Just politely tell them that you need to be at the appointment. No need to go pissing in the parking lot. :D

Pee in a big cup with a lid while standing shielded by the door with the car in a lot location that offers modesty.

Don't try it sitting down. Gravity will not be your friend.

I can't see them busting you for that given you are trying to be modest coupled with your condition, that you will of course embellish if someone calls you on it.

Have her tell them it was either you or a comfort lama.

at that age; is the volume significant..or is it just a tiny squirt?

i just pissed outside right now, along HWY one. i pretended i was reading plan sheets. hell, they closed all the public restrooms!! my friend said it best, "anywhere is better than in your pants"

pavulon 05-27-2020 02:00 PM

Put on a mask, explain your situation and ask you use their restroom.

I have an upcoming ophthalmologist appointment. I received a simiiar email. I will "get" to wear my mask for the entire visit. And they are cleaning everything constantly. That appointment was several months back when the China flu was fresh out of Wuhan. It was rescheduled to next month.

Update:

All went without drama...found a parking spot on a side lot of the clinic that had a pair of tall shrubs. I was thankful for that set-up. Used it several times before it was time to leave.

BTDT. Yep. take the email.
Remember the airline that returned a plane to the gate because an "old dog" had to hit the tree while taxiing? To bad. " Screw 'em...when I gotta go I gotta go."

Congrats on joining the Fraternal Order of Urban Outdoorsmen. Lucky thing a Mustang didn't spring out of that parking lot and mow down you and your accommodations. :)

Yes or no. It depends on the whim of your prostate. It can be "OMG CODE RED EMERGENCY YOU ARE GOING TO EXPLODE" until you get to the relief facility and then it's "Just needed a tinkle" or you unload like a race horse - over the course of 15 minutes.

rwest 05-27-2020 06:32 PM

I was at the emergency vet for many hours on Saturday sitting in my car, so surveyed the area and saw a decent cluster of trees near a closed business and did my business!

The voice of experience.
Go ahead and laugh youngsters. But your time is coming...

I take a large opening bottle with me everywhere I go.

red-beard 05-27-2020 07:17 PM

My mother needed help getting my father to a couple of appointments.

At the first one, no issue. I could wait, by myself, completely alone, in the waiting room.

At the second, I was not allowed to even stay in the waiting room. Only one person allowed. I have to look around the building to find a chair to wait. What difference could it make if I sit in the lobby by myself with 4 chairs, or the doctor's waiting room with probably 50 chairs? Made no sense.

Tobra 05-27-2020 08:42 PM

It does not have to make sense, it is a public health "mandate."
