Season 70, Episode 1

Starting Today!

Welcome to Season 70, Episode 1 of the WD show!

Back when I was 20 I didn’t even consider the possibility of living 50 more years. Until recently I had no thoughts about and no concept of what it might be like to live to be 70. It only really struck me a short time ago – “I’m going to be seventy years old!”

The realization that as of today I am a septuagenarian has been kind of enlightening. For years, as I’ve actually gotten older I still thought of myself as young. As the arthritis, bad eyesight, and other age-related issues crept in I thought there was something wrong with me. It was stressing me out. I kept wondering what the hell was wrong.

Now I get it. There’s nothing wrong with me, I’m a normal seventy year old. It’s been easier to live with the stresses of living and aging once I realized I was actually living and aging. It’s been easier to enjoy the moment, experience it and not be in such a hurry to get to the next place, next moment, next task. The past is gone, the future will take care of itself, all I have is the present.

In this episode, Patrick takes a nap.

Same here, it took a while to realize the above. Welcome to the seventies Patrick and as to the nap, a daily ritual around here.

Happy Birthday Pal.

From your posts you don’t appear to be a day over 40 !

Congrats, here’s to the next 70.

Happy Birthday, WD!

Here's a Porsche birthday cake for you to eat after your nap

Wait, that's not right. Wrong kind of "Porsche"

I'll have to talk to Porsche about getting the years wrong, but they've clearly been planning for your 70th for a couple of years!

Oh, and if you do any "napping" with Mrs WD, try to remember that you're "old" now. We don't want to have to say "he died doing what he loved".

Like Keith said, If I knew I was going to live this long, I’d have taken better care of me self.

I admire your outlook , and wish you many good years ahead.

Happy Birthday Patrick! I'm right behind you man.

If I may suggest sir... while we cannot avoid aging I say we do our best to avoid getting old. I'm trying very hard to live that way, as I believe you do too.

Happy Birthday Patrick. I feel your pain, will be 74 this August. Spent last week R&R’ing a transaxle on my 951. On my back on a creeper. Ugh! Got it done, used up half a bottle of Bayer back &body. Yesterday, I was 18, what the hell happened? Enjoy your day with your family. More fun to come as you get older!

Happy Birthday.

We all remember the "good ol days" of youth and working hard all day, and going out until late the next night and getting by on little sleep and spending all day under our cars fixing things. Then the next morning having no sore muscles or stiff joints.

Now if I need a nap as the business owner I can take a nap whenever I want and no one gets mad at me. I can go tinker in the garage when the urge his me. I own the tools needed to do most any repair on my cars. I only work on my cars or stuff.

Welcome to the club...

As far as the increasing physical limitations go, nobody our age likes 'em. As the kids say, it is what is is.

However, we do have many "been there-done that" memories. Thomas Wolfe was right...ya can't go home again.

But the memories can be enough.
