Budget? Usage? Email, internet?

My son claims his MacBook Air is "****** Awesome."

Cajundaddy 06-07-2020 04:44 PM

Mac

This one is from 2009 and has been upgraded once with RAM, SSD, fresh battery. I average 3 years with my windows machines.

RWebb 06-07-2020 04:58 PM

Lenovo

but not as "awesome" as McWhatever

Any one that doesn't have a bad keyboard! :D

My Dell Inspiron is about 4 years old and has been solid. Every HP I've bought has been crap.

I have had very good luck with Dell.

My current machine was $200 on Kijiji...and it's pretty good.

I have a dell xps15. Just looked it up, bought it in november of 2013.

Bought it direct from dell 'outlet store' online. Supposedly scratch/dent, but I couldn't find anything wrong.

I have a Lenova Yoga. Love it. Can't say I've ever got on with Macs, though I love my iPhone.

Oddly, the Mrs has a Mac and an Android phone and loves both.

billybek 06-07-2020 07:51 PM

I have been leaning towards a lenovo yoga. my wife has one and it has been very reliable.
usage, internet, games some video editing and some work excel.
I get a bit overwhelmed with the choices and comparisons. Hard to compare apples to apples sometimes...

Edit
would like to stay around fifteen hundred Canadian. Cant type numbers

I like my MacBook Air. They're very lightweight. Good battery. Comes with Apple's office programs free of charge. That's now an annual charge for Microsoft office...

First one I bought was in 2014. Used it everyday for a while. Finally bought a new one last year at the bx because it was on sale and my old one was approaching 6 years old. Old one still works, and I use it to stream media/movies.

Downside is the high buy in, but they last forever.

I've been using IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads since the mid 1990's. I cannot have a laptop without a Track point. So I either get a Lenovo or a Dell Lattitude.

I replaced my again Thinkpad X1 Carbon (gen 1) with a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (gen 6). There are some serious sales on Lenovo right now.

You might also look at the Dell Outlet. Some are brand new, some are customer returns, some corporate over-runs, some refurbished and some scratch-n-dent.

Dell outlet has many many laptops for under $1000 USD. I just found a Dell Latitude, 15" with 8th Gen i7, 8GB Ram for $863. Non touch screen.

I like Dell but I am not sure the brand matters. Solid state hard drive and max out the RAM and you will probably be good to go.

No complaints with my Dell Precision and Samsung Series 9. The latter is super thin/portable, if that is a primary consideration...

Really depends on your intended usage. I made a switch to Mac many years ago and it’s great for general usage, but a bit pricy.

Once you go Mac you don’t look back!

I have an ASUS which I am very happy with and have had it for a year no problems.
