19% will wait more than a year for a haircut.....hahahahahahahaha!

What a stupid article. Ask a 75% majority of academics with an obvious lack of perspective on anything outside of their field of study and this is what you get. I want my click back, I was hoping for something insightful.

RWebb 06-10-2020 12:38 PM

do you know what an epidemiologist is?

they asked over 500 of them

75% of those interviewed work in academia which means they have a perspective that is in no way related to reality. Plus it’s the NYT and a survey, which can be biased in any way you please.

Por_sha911 06-10-2020 01:38 PM

Published by the NYT who fired a upper level staff member who approved publishing an Op-Ed that didn't fit the paper's agenda.

you are completely confused about what research scientists do

feel free to take any risks you want however

I am, it’s called freedom!

Btw in my line of work I often have to take what research scientists do and try to make it applicable to reality. So I have a pretty good handle on the level of detachment between the PhD world and the world that most of humanity exists in.

So, all the models were wrong, the WHO now says that asymptomatic transmission of WEBB 19 is really rare (which means really, really rare) and you still hold the bags of the next round of naysayers?

What is an Epidemiology, exactly?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epidemiology

We need better ones. Go find them.

Who cares what a bunch of women that file nails for a living think?

Por_sha911 06-10-2020 03:40 PM

Any decision made based on bad or intentionally misleading data will be a bad decision. The WHO is screwing the country by singing the song that China wants them to sing.

Don’t know what WEBB is, but the WHO says asymptomatic transmission Of Covid-19 may be as much as 40% of transmissions.

That was my job too, back when I was an engineer. They were doing molecular level studies on advanced composite structural materials. They knew nano tubes, we knew airplanes. We worked together and I would never disparage their work.

Arizona_928 06-10-2020 05:38 PM

Nanotube solid state chemistry. It's cool, but not my cup of tea.

As for activities. They're allowing 1500 people into the football games. That's not even the population of the town. If you throw in guidelines to make you feel like your safe.

cabmandone 06-10-2020 05:47 PM

I've got one foot in the grave already. I'm going to see Legion in the all too near future. I went to the OBX, visited a beer garden (only kinda garden worth having IMO) went out to eat at a nice restaurant on the sound side, went to the grocery store multiple times, and worst of all I had fun... I'm domed :)

It has been fun knowin y'all. But don't worry, based on Legion's continued posting there's AWESOME internet service in the afterlife.

Rawknees'Turbo 06-10-2020 05:59 PM

^^^

Why are you reverse virtue signaling, Bro?!?! Next you'll be claiming yer slept!!!

cabmandone 06-10-2020 06:15 PM

Technically I'm unvirtuous signaling and I am slept... but not well rested. I blame the All Day IPA's the Duck Rabbit Milk Stouts, the Fat Tire and all the wine for that... and the 8 extra pounds I'm now carrying around.

Rawknees'Turbo 06-10-2020 06:45 PM

I've heard that UVS/RVS is closely related to RTDS - true?!?!

Maybe I should ask onewhippedpuppy, as that dude loves to UVS/RVS; hell, he even started a thread, which was quickly locked, to do so!!! :D

Nope, they walked that back, killing more people around the world with mis information.

Quote:

WHO official Maria Van Kerkhove clarified Tuesday that patients sometimes confuse not having any symptoms with only exhibiting mild symptoms. In addition, some patients transmit the virus before developing symptoms. Contact tracers classify this group as "presymptomatic," rather than asymptomatic.

Van Kerkhov said the WHO estimates 16% of people are asymptomatic and can transmit the virus. Some models suggest up to 40% of coronavirus transmission might be due to asymptomatic spread, she added, but much more information is needed.

Oooh big words, you must be smart!:D

Sorry guys but for those of you still sheltering in fear....good luck. The so called experts have been wrong at basically every turn with this thing, and if you deny that there aren’t some ulterior motives at play then we have nothing else to talk about because you are living in a fantasy land. So how about you continue hiding in your homes, and we keep living our lives, and then everybody is happy. Cool?

RWebb 06-10-2020 11:19 PM

you need to build a house in PARF

Smart enough to believe in science over wishful thinking. Worked in science long enough to know complete knowledge of any phenomenon does not just appear full blown.

Then you’ll be dropping out of this thread? Good. Bye!

DanielDudley 06-11-2020 02:33 AM

I get that we cannot agree on this. People who are interested should read the link and decide for themselves. I am going to suggest that someone start Corona Virus thread for links and news quotes only, so that people can get information here without all the endless back and forth. I expect that a lot of regular OTers just want access to information from both sides without the infield chatter.

Posts 1 and 22 are the only posts in this thread that would really qualify to be in a link and news quote thread, but at least we would have a place where all could share information without worrying if it was going to be closed or moved to PARF.
