I'm a little curious what was in that online newsletter that got them so riled up.

Wow! Crazy. Here's another article with some more details.

It's just a guess on my part, but...

Yep, that's the blog run by the couple mentioned, and the specific newsletter in question.
Though, they have been critical of eBay for quite a while it would appear.

I have nothing good to say about Ebay either//

I have some observations:

1) these were not just plain rank-and-file "employees" who went rogue: Jim Baugh, senior director of safety and security; David Harville, director of global resiliency; Stephanie Popp, a senior manager of global intelligence; Stephanie Stockwell, a intelligence analyst; Veronica Zea, a contractor; and Brian Gilbert, senior manager of special operations

2) There's no way this happened in a vacuum without the C-suite knowing about it

3) Things had to be be getting pretty ugly for this lot to get unceremoniously thrown under the bus

4) This makes one wonder how many other times this has happened - or is happening - and they just haven't been caught yet.

I had similar thoughts while reading. Also seems unlikely that this is an isolated incident.

It for sure is a big black eye for Ebay and it sounds like it was a well deserved black eye. Likely all the employees fired were given a golden parachute before getting thrown out.

In my book PayPal and Ebay are one step away from criminal organizations. Like others said, these are high ranking employees, the fact that you can find half a dozen people ready to engage in something like this in the same company speaks volumes ...

Generally the e-commerce and social media companies present themselves as centers of innovation but most are cut throat and run by unethical sleaze ball bullies as demonstrated here.
