At the Cleveland R & R Hall of Fame Museum they had a letter from the Navy to Jim Morrison's Dad, a high ranking officer, about their displeasure with his son's antics.

They also had his Dad's response letter which basically said he (Jim) is his own person and they could eff off. He said it in a way that he kept his job but I am sure he thought about how to write that one for a bit. Dad and son were really not in touch with each other after Jim left home so I was impressed that he defended him.

well his dad was a commissioned officer.
WW2, Korea Vet, Bronze Star with a V.. that eventually became a Rear Admiral.

It's not like you can simply "fire" an officer like that in the Navy, over a letter bout his son.
Who wrote the letter? also an officer? higher ranking?

To put it in perspective, The man commanded an Essex Class carrier, Bonne Homme richard few years before the Doors became a band.
So any time before or after the Doors.. He was already doing serious things in the Tonkin Gulf era..

Even if the would have told the writer of that letter to **** off.
At best he would have had a NJP at worst a court martial where the Navy would have first had to get over the fact that the writer of that letter, was already crossing boundaries himself. At worst he could have gotten a demotion of some kind, or a months salary and a dent in his career.

Considering he became a rear admiral, in charge of the Fleet at the time of the Tonking Bay incident.. I guess he did know how to write it in a slightly more subtle way.
