With homemade chili & Hires root beer. "February 8, 1954 – The Pacific, Missouri Transcript reported that two “colored girls in a new Cadillac” had stopped at Butler’s Grill and left a purse behind containing $1,000 in bonds, $600 in traveler's checks, and $120 in cash. The purse belonged to none other than entertainer Pearl Bailey, who returned and gave Mrs. Butler a $50 reward." This news article quote and postcard are courtesy of Joe Sonderman. |

And such was he, and he looked to me like a man who had lived in hell; With a face most hair, and the dreary stare of a dog whose day is done, As he watered the green stuff in his glass, and the drops fell one by one. Then I got to figgering who he was, and wondering what he'd do, And I turned my head — and there watching him was the lady that's known as Lou. |
