Georgetown, Colorado was settled after the discovery of gold in 1859 and would ultimately become the center of a major silver district. Georgetown competed with Central City as Colorado’s most important mining center in the 1870s. Today, Georgetown is one of the best preserved Victorian-era mining towns in the West.

My Father's side of the family was Scottish - his father a first generation American, his Mother FOB.

My Grandfather was an orphan and had no desire to wax poetic about Scotland or go visit. Scotland is the last place on this Earth that would get me on a translant or pac airliner. After the hip is fixed, we'll see:)

Taken yesterday. Combine is here, soybeans will be gone by 1500.

I was in Scotland (Aberdeen) once about 20 years ago for work. I didn't really do any sightseeing other than walking around Aberdeen. I also got lucky that it almost never rained while I was there. I thought it was great and would love to go back to Scotland to explore. Of course, I'd also want to see England and Ireland, and while they are small countries, I'm sure you could easily spend weeks in all of them. In some ways it's a shame that my dad was never stationed in Edzell Scotland, although I wouldn't want to change the two tours in Japan.

I'll see if I can find some pics.

They aren't. Japanese long bows have the grip offset. I think, IIRC, it's about 1/3 of the way up, but I'm sure there's a more exact measurement. And I think those bows are only for "kyūdō."

When you shoot a bow, there's a vibration. Again, IIRC, the spot where the grip is on a kyūdō bow is at a neutral spot in the vibration waves in the bow where, I think, they are supposed to be canceled out or something like that.

If you enjoy history everywhere you look, room temp beer and some strange food preparation I strongly urge you to take some time in England. I've been there many times and never had a bad visit. As for Ireland I had never seen so many shades of green before. The villages were better than the city. The people laugh easily and were very welcoming if you are not an ugly American. That last bit is easy.

TWO STRIKE (1831-1915)
Two Strike, or Numpkahapa, was a Brulé Lakota chief born in the White River Valley in 1831 in the northeastern part of present-day Nebraska. He acquired the Lakota name of "Nomkahpa", meaning "Knocks out two" in a battle with the Utes, in which he knocked two Utes off their horses with a single blow from his war club. Two Strike fought in various battles against the United States Army during the Bozeman Trail Wars, allied with Chief Crow Dog and Chief Crazy Horse in the Powder River Country of Wyoming.
Two Strike and his band were present alongside bands of Southern Cheyennes at the Battle of Summit Springs, Colorado on July 11, 1869, when the 5th Cavalry and 50 Pawnee scouts led a surprise attack on their camp. Buffalo Bill Cody was present at the battle as a scout leader. Chief Tall Bull of the Southern Cheyennes along with 51 members of the Lakota-Cheyenne Combined Encampment were killed and 17 women and children were taken prisoner, the rest of the Lakota and Cheyenne managed to escape. The soldiers then burned all the tipis and their contents.
Chief Two Strike was one of the main leaders of the combined Oglala and Burnt forces who, along with more than 1,000 brave men, attacked a group of 350 Pawnees who had established their reserve in Nebraska to hunt buffalo. Over 70 Pawnees were killed in the battle that took place along a canyon now located in Hitchcock County, Nebraska. The canyon has since been renamed Massacre Canyon.
Two Strike died in 1915 on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota.

Of all the characters who graced the streets of Tombstone, Dr. George Goodfellow may have been the best and brightest. He was an expert on gunshot wounds, and on bulletproof fabrics. The doctor performed the first appendectomy in Arizona. He was considered very knowledgeable on rattlesnake and Gila monster bites (and the venom therein). Goodfellow studied and recorded the effects of earthquakes. And there are more than a few other credits on his vitae.

Yesterday was the big drop off at the Mennonite Auction site...a friend of mine and y son helped me load a bunch of stuff on my trailer and prop it off: Old bush hog, manure spreader, PTO powered generator, tons of little stuff.

I've been doing this for 25 years and always do well...hard to predict. They auction off everything: Equipment, horses, crafts, furniture, etc.

Panoramic view of the site:

No affiliation other than I know the host of the auction. The auction is 12 November and and the place will be packed - big event for Amish and Mennonites in the Mid Atlantic.

The auction is about 50 miles south of DC. Lots of other Agra-tourist stuff in the area as well. At the Pin Drop:

THat's because those guys kicked their arze. So they built a wall.
I can hear this in one of the Monty Python voices
"Bah, we didn't want that land anyway!"
"No!"
"No, definitely didn't want it."
"We'll take the high ground and let them keep that horrible land that we didn't want, the poor wretches."
"Yes, Yes!"
"Yes, that's a brilliant idea. Now lets go back to the safety of the outpost and have some lunch while we let the poor wretches have that horrible land."
