Western Electric 2A turntable, ca. 1926, was created for broadcasting & Vitaphone movie sound systems. The rare stereophonic version had a moving coil cartridge, the turntable ran at
33-1/3 rpm. Flutter-and-wow was far less than any modern turntable. Rumble was -65 dB or better. The tonearm's angular error is so low that a straight-line tracking arm wasn't seen as necessary. This was achieved with cast iron parts, ordinary copper wire, common ball bearings and a 1 horsepower electric motor.
