Classic black&white detective movie filmed in 1st person?

The missus and I have watched a classic, detective, mystery movie where a large part of the movie is filmed in first person from the point of view of the detective. I can't remember much about it other than that it's probably from the 40s or 50s and at the end, I think they find a box with something radioactive in it. I think it might explode, and I think they may be at a house at the beach or something like that.

Any thoughts?

Love me some film noir.

TCM Noir Alley is always a great watch. Eddie Muller always gives the backstory of the film and the back story can be as good as the movie,.

Heard a while ago that they found a couple minutes of extra footage that changed the ending, made it much less bleak. But I’ve never seen that version.
