Maybe I am a
Vette guy..... No silk shirts with undone buttons, hairy chest with chains and such...
My pops is a Vette guy, not the one described above but one non the less. He had a 01 Z06 that was a track car until he balled it up at Sears Point. I drove it a couple times on some twisty roads before it became track dedicated. Very impressive power, torque and was a wonderful car but not my cup of tea. Like the older Vettes I had driven over the years I did not care for how low you sit (I'm short) and how the hood seemed to go on forever seemly unable to see 20' in front of the car. After wrecking the 01 he bought a 2012 about 10 years ago and I've never been that interested in due to my Vette bias. At Thanksgiving he, myself and my uncle who just bought a 2023 base model were talking Vettes. My pops indicated I would be getting the 2012 when he was no longer able to enjoy it. I told them "I'm no vette guy and had little interest in it" and I could tell he was a lil butt hurt. Fast forward to this past weekend I was down visiting my folks and changing the duramax oil on pops' lift so when done I pulled the truck out so he could tuck his rig back in the garage. As he walked to it I shout "lemme drive that *****" since I never had. He said sure lets go. He has a little 10 mile loop he drives and bikes on that we headed for, and all be dam.... Very impressive car, tons of torque, power and great brakes. Does not have the sit too low hood goes for ever I characteristics of other ones I've driven. Loved it! Told him I'd changed my mind and wondered when I could come pick it up..

To be a Vette guy, you need the uniform.
(PS, I like Vettes.)

First time driving a Porsche 911 was a big disappointment for me.
Having previously owned a '69 Corvette with a close-ratio 4-speed, I was used to massive low-end torque and fierce acceleration. I thought this exotic car would blow My socks off. Mash the throttle to the floor, and..... twiddle my thumbs waiting for something to happen. Of course, I've learned to enjoy the light, crisp handling of the 911, and have learned the benefits of keeping the tach pointing near redline when acting like a hooligan. Very different cars. I like both. |

I sold my 80 SC and purchased an 07 Z06. The cars are like night and day. I’ve tracked both, the SC was more fun on the track. The Z06 is stupid fast. It doesn’t take much to spin the rear wheels. Where I live now there are a lot of twisty country roads with no traffic.

Ya, on the drive I was driving it like I would a 911 at 1st... You know, getting all my braking done before I head to the apex smashing the skinny pedal...?? My pops loves and respects my driving, but he'd only go to Sport Mod keeping the nannies on so when I went hot after the apex I was kept from doing something stupid....... Trust me Dix when I tell you my pops is way cooler than that knitting club.... At Laguna in like 2011 or so when his 01 was still kicken... He's the short skinny guy in the red Sparco suit.....
