"an intimidating 214 hp" .. boy that's an old ad when 214hp is intimidating.. I wonder if it scared the 217hp 944T or the 300hp 930 ;)

214hp is intimidating if you run a 1980 SC like I do...
I prefer the 930 Rocket Scientist poster. Classic. Bests part was the little rocks and chunk that were kicked up off the road and airborne with the car. |
210hp was intimidating in a 914/6

Back in 1984 when the Carrera model was first introduced to the USA Porsche of course had press cars for all the car magazines. Car and Driver, Road and Track and the rest that do car evaluations all tested the 911.
It was crowned as the fastest car one could by in America. It had the fastest 0 to 60, fasted 1/4 mile time and the highest top speed. All with the whopping 200 HP of US cars. Corvette did not sell any Corvettes for one year, and then had a pitiful choked Vette that made less than 200 HP in a car that weighs a lot, and had more cowl shake and fenders flopping around than a rubber car. When is the last time you saw a mid 1980s Vette at all that was still basically stock? |
I like the ad. Thanks, Karl.
Porsche is always a tiny, wee bit, quietly snobbish in their ads and it entertains. They have earned that right. |
