Funny stuff here, guys.
Think about it - a bunch of Porsche nuts complaining about that next hobby that they’ve taken up, and how much it’s costing us to gear up to the point of reaching nirvana - only to determine that the hobby has been played out.
I think Whitney Houston said it best: “Crack is Whack”.

Now - I’ll go:
My kid is dying to shoot his first whitetail (deer). He’s been using a 1950’s model Stevens 30-30 for the last 2 years, and we haven’t seen a thing. Has nothing to do with the gun. I finally relent and help him purchase a rifle & scope, sight it in, etc...
I mention the whole process to my uncle, who we’ll call “Larry”.
About a week later - Larry sends me a text, “Watch the mail this week. You should be expecting a couple of packages.”
So-
I am now a parent to a teenager who will be taking my workbench over to load rifle cartridges. And by the way - “Enough stuff so you can do all your own loading” still cost me a few Benjamin’s - powder measure, another set of dies for my 25-06, some case lube and neck brushes.....

Next year, it’ll be another thing.
And by the way - I just got finished getting set up with a blind, tripod (trigger stick - which is really cool), heater, spotting scope......

If only we could stick to a hobby. Or two.

My parents bought a bass boat that was very high end. And a ton of tackle and equipment. Dad was enough of nerd to keep track of what things cost. He said truly a pound of fresh caught lake bass was more expensive than top notch caviar.

They came home from the lake every weekend and usually had a few fish but on occasion they had a major haul and they both hit limits for the weekend. Our standard joke was aw man, we have to eat fresh fish from the lake again. ;)

This all sounds familiar....and then I started to build my own rods - from vintage Fenwick blanks sourced on EBay......

I pile up all my personal invoices in my office, and just sorted them after a couple of years.
Bass Boat
Fishing equipment
Snowmobile
Both 911's
Truck
Tools
Added up to thousands +.
Now you know why I keep them in my office :D

I bought my center console a couple of months ago. I picked up some rods and reels since then.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1603827309.jpg

The gold ones on the right are new, and a couple of the spinners are new. The others were bought used.

I’ve taken my son and grandson out 3 times, and a friend 2 times. I’ve burned between 40-60 gal of fuel each time.

We always catch some fish, but notice that there are none worth taking a picture of.

And I haven’t really gone that far offshore yet, maybe 10 miles or so. But at around 1.6 mpg it sucks the fuel down pretty fast.

My sons kayak is sitting on my dock, maybe I should use it to fish in the canals.

As far as hobbies go, my son is wanting to start a new project (in my barn) that he found. It's an original owner family 1951 Pontiac Catalina. I tentatively agreed as long as he helps me erect my 2 post lift that has been laying in the barn (taking up space) for the last 2 years.

They call me gaiter salad.

But seriously I went home with a “mild headache ”. I couldn’t show up to work today sunburned!

Just don't take up wildlife photography. My last lens cost 12K+, and that is just one in the quiver. Hobby is much like fishing, often on the best days you still do not catch anything.

Aint that the truth. My wife wanted a bit longer reach and we looked at a fixed 600mm lens for her Canon. Yehousa.

Hey vash, have you ever considered freelance writing for a fishing mag or site?
