Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse for hospitals...,.

BOSTON (AP) — Federal agencies warned that cybercriminals are unleashing a wave of data-scrambling extortion attempts against the U.S. health care system designed to lock up hospital information systems, which could hurt patient care just as nationwide cases of COVID-19 are spiking.

In a joint alert Wednesday, the FBI and two federal agencies warned that they had “credible information of an increased and imminent cybercrime threat to U.S. hospitals and healthcare providers.” The alert said malicious groups are targeting the sector with attacks that produce “data theft and disruption of healthcare services."

Reminds me of the guy who did my "physical" when I was applying to get on staff at a hospital in Texas. They bring me in, sit me in his office. He comes in with an unlit cigarette in his mouth, old Turkish guy.

"So, buddy, you have anything wrong with you?"

"No"

"Okay," as he signs the form.

I was little surprised, "Is that it?"

Maybe I listen to your heart, your lung. Walks over to treatment room with the cigarette now lit. I ask about the no smoking signs everywhere, "I am the boss."

He listens to my chest for a second, and that was it.

We’re throttling back elective surgeries and shipping surgery staff to the floors after converting an entire floor to COVID care on top of opening a COVID ICU. It’s not great.

Just went for a check-up on my shoulder for another cortisone shot.

Are you in agonizing pain? If not, stop that.

Cortisone shots do “not heal the structural damage” underlying the pain. Instead, they actually “impede the structural healing.”

I might have to give it another try. My shoulder started hurting again when I started doing my daily workouts again back in March. I went about three months and then the pain was enough that I had to quit. My original thought was to just keep working out until something finally broke that they could fix. I decided that probably wasn't a solid plan.

Don't do it. Cortisone is just a mask that impedes long term healing.
