Growing up in MI..we were always told that if Phil saw his shadow...6 more weeks of winter.
If Phil didn't see his shadow...only a month and a half more winter.

Precisely.

However on Monday we hit 71 degrees, clear skies, almost no wind. Tuesday was only 61, and right now it is 26 and dropping and snow and sleet and freezing rain are forecast for the next two days, but the warmup begins in Friday, and by Monday we are back to 50s and 60s.

It is just like February just had to rear its ugly head. February is our most wintry month. The good news is it is a short month.

Jimmy the groundhog in Sun Prairie, WI did NOT see his shadow.
Spring will be here soon. Probably just another 6 - 8 weeks.

Elmo, the local prairie dog prognosticator, didn't see his shadow.

I’m pretty sure no winter in Michigan is ever over by Mid-March no matter what Phil sees or what the celestial positions say.

Sometimes, even, celestial winter is nicer than celestial spring in Michigan.

Either way, April is the cruelest month because April weather typically fluctuates between winter and spring. I’ve seen snow in mid May!

In my neck of the woods, starting an outdoor garden before June 1 is dumb.

Here on the 45th Parallel there is pretty much 6 months of winter and 6 months of summer, usually. In the UP there’s 8 months of winter and 4 months of poor sledding.

Here is Western Oregon, the weather is misty today. Looking forward? No precipitation predicted for the next 10ish days. And, the trees have blossomed. So much for a nice ski year.

My older sister lives in Jackson, MI and they have had over 14 inches of snow since last night.
I live an hour away and we had a slight dusting of snow during the same time.

You don't have to go far in MI to get different weather.
