^ U.K. plate. For those that don’t know, our plates have to have been issued by the DVLA (licensing authority) and conform to a specific format dependent on year and place. You can’t make a car appear newer than it is which limits your choice of plate further. ‘Rude’ words are not issued but historical plates are sometimes already out there (PEN 15 for example). You can’t just have what you want like in the US. That makes the search even more difficult and some plates hugely expensive, £50k not uncommon.

This when I lived in Florida. Then moved to Oregon where I got a permanent plate only needs registration once.
