Porsche guy here, bought my first one at 16 with my own saved up money, I think it was $1950 the top of picture shows it after purchase the middle shows how it looked after I did a ton of work on it, sadly a drunk driver totaled it on me. Bottom picture is a 944 which was my third Porsche.

Well... my dad let me drive his '69 VW for a while, but bought with my own money, it would've been the Toyota Corolla AE111.

In 2001 i was 15 I bought my 46 cj2a for 200$ it was sitting in the woods since the 80s had a tree growing through it I rebuilt it pretty much by myself with help from my brother reviving the mechanicals. It was mostly bodywork i didnt rebuild the engine till a few years after high school its a great jeep I still have it and use it al the time mostly for hauling out firewood these days

Before i got the jeep on the road i mostly drove my moms 87 regal. I used it to get my permit but the engine was cooked so as soon as i got home we swapped in a fresh 350 and new 350 trans. It was fast but I respected it and never wrecked it. mostly because i knew id never hear the end of it lol We eventually got rid of it because gas cost so much and 2 wheel drive on our hill wasnt cutting it

1974 Chevy Vega wagon...
|
1964 Ford Thunderbird. Brakes were shot, had some body damage, but it started and ran and cost a whopping $500.00 (1976). Got a nice enamel repaint and looked really sharp. Sold it in 1980 when gas hit $1.00 a gallon, and it was too expensive for me to drive back and forth to college. Looked just like this one but with red interior:

Ugh...1985 Mitsubishi Galant. First year the Galant was sold in the US, and they filled it with bells and whistles to grab the discerning American buyer...it had wipers that changed speed as you went faster, it had reclining rear seats, and you could set a temp and it would turn the A/C or heat on to maintain that! In 1985! So Cadillac...
Stock photo, not mine, mine was white. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1604291338.jpg The worst car I ever owned. Engine blew up after 6 months (I believe the oil pump stopped pumping, while on the freeway in rural Illinois at 60mph), replaced the engine at great expense, then had someone turn in front of me 6 months later, THAT destroyed the car. |

Started out driving one of these.....
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1604292474.jpg Insurance totaled it after a minor fender bender in '78. Bought one of these with the proceeds that had to be pulled home on a trailer because it was partially dis-assembled. After four months, it was back together and I was loving life. Bought for $1,200..........Sold for $12,500. It's not Hugh's DB, but still an enjoyable/profitable purchase. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1604292961.jpg |
Similar to this. I was 17years old, it was 20.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1604296014.jpg My first car was a '65 bug, bought it for $50 when I was 15. It had a fresh rebuilt engine but it would barely run and took me a while to figure out the cam gear was a tooth off. |
First vehicle was a '69 Suzuki Savage enduro in red like this. It was HEAVY.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1604299069.jpg First car 6 months later was a super clean '68 Firebird in this red with a red vinyl interior, a 4.1L OHC straight six, 3 speed manual on the steering column. Didn't have the hood tach and had hubcaps. 99,000 miles and ran like a top for $1,100. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1604299217.jpg |

The first car I had was a hand me down from my sister. A 1984 AUDI Quattro. This was in 1993-95.
Then I moved to NYC for university. Got married and soon after we bought our first car together. A 1976 BMW 2002, we purchased it in the fall of 2001. The car broke a lot but it was fun and 2002 owners are great. We traded it in on a 1979 911sc targa. A huge upgrade ;) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1604309407.jpg |
My first car was a bronze colored 1973 Ford Pinto with a 2.3 I4, and auto transmission. It was surprisingly quick, and sporty....until I wrapped it around an Eastbound freight train doing 45 mph.

I saved up for a while doing construction work to buy this, still the nicest car I’ve ever owned. Shortly after this picture it had 15x8 Corvette Rallye wheels on it.

My first car around 1988. 1973 Nova we bought off an older lady. Had a 250 6 cylinder. Took that out and added a 350 with a mild cam. Added Corvette Rally wheels in the rear. Air shocks. Sold it to buy my current 74 Porsche 911 in 1993.

1986, 1965 Impala 2dr, early-mid70s 350, 2bbl, muncie 4spd, low gears in the back. Fun but not terribly fast.

35 years ago...1971 240z http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1604324980.jpg Now....the car aged better than I did |
1970 Honda Z50 Minitrail.... About 1 year after this 1970 or '71 picture of me riding with my dad, I commandeered it from him. He would set me on it with it in gear then get me going. When I felt like stopping I would ride past garage door screaming for him to come out and get me stopped as I could not reach the ground.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1604329653.JPG Now I do the same with my grandkids with a 50. (apple.. fall... tree and all that) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1604329653.jpg |
1966 Mustang
200ci straight six with a three speed. Drove it from the east coast to IA for college and across the US once. Still have it, need to get it down from the lift and do some maintenance on it and get it road worthy. I am in the process of getting ready to list my '78 Westfalia for sale and I do not need so many "toy" cars. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1604337340.jpg |

wow.... never thought i would disclose this to ANYONE...... but after all these years what the heck..... 1976 AMC Pacer was my 1sy car! 300.00 on my 16th birthday.
BUT................... every time i turned it over... IT STARTED and got me to school and back. i even went on a date with it. (i got asked, "are you taking my out in THAT?" i said.... sure am.... get in. |
Had one of these, but mine was a greenish turquoise. Played the Dukes too many times with it and broke the 904LA in it.

What was your first vehicle? (Picture if you can)
86 Audi 4000cs Quattro. Looked like this one I found on the web. I paid $1900 for it in 1991

Even in 1972 California there was nothing remotely cool about a 1960, 36HP VW Beetle. Zippy. I had a saying: "If this Beetle is a rockin', I need new shocks..." Following this thread, I have got to say there were some stone cold first rides you folks had. I love the variety and the stories. I bet the electric window motor in Java's Corvette had more HP than my entire car:D |
Electric windows in a Corvette were pretty speedy, they’d take your fingers off if you weren’t careful. I remember when I got my first 911 and rolled the window down, I wondered what was wrong with the electric motor.

parents could really train their kids to obey with the old time electric windows

My very first motorcycle was a 1976 Sportster that I bought in 1978. Kept it for about a year, then sold it and bought a 1967 instead. Kept that one for about a year, and then bought another 1976. The first one was identical to the third one, which I have now owned since 1980. I don't have any pictures of the first one, nor do i have any older pictures of the third one. I do, however, have this picture, taken about four or five years ago:

Mine was white. Got it when I was 14 in 1968. Had it two years. Whopping 40hp and they were Shetland. Girls loved it. I caught a rash of **** because of the power but my best Bud had a Mercury cyclone with 10” slicks in back. We usually took his car if girls weren’t involved. |
