29 souls lost. They were never found. To this day - no one knows exactly what caused this maritime disaster.

Worth remembrance.

Thanks, Steve.....

This song is so good. God bless those men.

Chills on a 70F night for me.

In 1974, four of us were crossing the 'Mighty Mac' to the UP of Mich.
The EF passed under the bridge and my girlfriend at that time took a pic of it with my polaroid instamatic. I still have the pic.

That is a four mile long bridge if Google Earth is correct.

Edit: Just saw the EF pic. Sweet. Proud ship.

I just put the ruler over the water so five plus miles total, yes.

I've seen it but never crossed over. Ex wife from Midland. Her Uncle has a cabin close to bridge.

There are two lanes in each direction with no barrier between them.
The fast/left lanes in each direction are open grated....real fun with a motorcycle.
I crossed it a few times with my CB750....if using the fast lane...be prepared!

12M waves. It was tough falling asleep but I did. I mean, I had to hold on to the bunk to not roll out onto the floor. Some creaking of the ship but you could still go get a sammich and an adult beverage.

Picture what it would take to snuff the EF.

If so, I've been on that one also...fun times.

Pretty much a straight shot on the shortest route between. I remember Sydney, Nova Scotia. Still seven hours between.

We drove through New Brunswick vs a ferry to Maine dragging pals 88 3.2 from Targa Newfoundland.

22 days with a dude was a long ass time. Ask my pal. He will confirm.

My trip there was with a buddy the day after we graduated high school...1972
We drove from west michigan across Canada to St Johns and took the ferry to Nova Scotia. Then drove back home along the east coast.

Very fun trip....took two weeks and saw a lot of new stuff.

We crossed the US/Canada border six times in the whole trip...my car and us were searched every time. Long hairs.

Emir and I drove to Windsor to get fireworks from Toledo in that time period and they still didn't have real M-80's.

Not quite the same as your trip.

The Great Lakes shipwreck museum on Whitefish Point in the U.P of Michigan is a really neat place to visit, they have the EF ship's bell, and part of a life raft. If there is ever any doubt of going into Lake Superior's waters in November as those poor souls did, it was quite cold (53* water) on a sunny 80* July afternoon when I visited the lighthouse, and waded in.

As a child, we used to see this boat Wintering over at the Toledo boat docks under the I-75 bridge into Maumee...really neat.
